FAQ Answers Round 7: Reds' Minor League Teams

Coming off of a couple of major victories, this seems like a good time to discuss the minor leagues!

We're answering one set of questions at a time. The 7th round of answers will be on the "Reds Minor League Teams" category. Post your answers to any or all sections of the question in this thread. I will compile and incorporate them into this first post.

Feel free to post links to threads if you think they contain particularly good answers or might be difficult to identify as such.

There must be other good questions to be found in this category, so feel free to submit those, too.

So far I'm mining the following threads:
    (none yet)

As far as the form of your answer, you can either go with a "just the facts" format or make a post with full sentences as if someone had asked the question. If you want to disagree with an earlier answer for some reason, that's fine, too.

Baseball America is a great resource for minor league info.

Up to date stats for the entire org

    http://www.baseballamerica.com/today...org_reds.shtml

More accurate than several of the team's own sites, esp. Potomac, who hasn't updated their stats section from last season.

For all these questions, I would start with the team Web sites (stats excepted - I agree with jmcclain19 that the most up to date stats are at Baseball America, and minorleaguebaseball.com is another good source).

Re: FAQ Answers Round 7: Reds' Minor League Teams

I have a question for the FAQ on minor leagues. I have never understood the Rookie league structure in Florida, the Instructional camps etc. I know many of the draftees are sent here but the stats are hard to find, the seasons are really short. Can someone explain how these leagues are organized? Do they have competitive play in the normal sense or are they instructional based with little emphasis on standings etc? Why aren't they listed as associated teams in the minors? Are these leagues a coop venture between teams, do they have age restrictions like Billings?
