Re: NHL agrees to terms - season may be uncancelled

So is there a deal or not?

Count me among those who care. Though I think Bettman made a critical mistake in cancelling the season if indeed there was still the possibility of making a deal to save the season.

IMO, that announcement is going to create a situation where the league is going to have to approach fans as if the 2005 never happened even if it does happen. I'm guessing that triggered the severing reaction in a lot of people's minds.

It'll be interesting to see how many teams survive this. My guess is a lot of warmer weather teams are headed for the dustbin (can the Coyotes go back to Winnipeg?).
    I'm not a system player. I am a system.

90 percent of the team make the playoffs anyways. So just go to the playoffs and be done with it.

Actually it's 53.3% of the teams and after the first round it's 26% which represents the elite of the teams after a long season..... roughly the top teams in each divison and two others of quality. After the 1st round the NHL playoffs are awesome.

BTW UA, i know you weren't dogging on the season.. I was speaking generally about the sports fans reactions around the US, very vibrant for those who don't care, to which I say if you don't care, don't worry about it.

53.3 percent? So all you would have to do is add one more series of games to the playoffs and you have 106.6 percent of the teams. Maybe they should throw in a Euro-Asian team to make up the difference.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Even with Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux at the bargaining table, the NHL and the players' association still weren't able to come to an agreement Saturday that would un-cancel the hockey season.

NHL chief legal officer Bill Daly told The Associated Press that there was no progress made in the 6 1/2 -hour meeting.

Just three days after the season was called off because of the protracted lockout, the NHL and the players' association restarted talks at 9 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location in New York.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and players' association executive director Bob Goodenow were not at the meeting, two sources told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

However, Gretzky, the managing partner of the Phoenix Coyotes, and Lemieux, the player-owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins, joined the talks aimed at getting a deal done that could save the season, the sources said.

From this article sounds like they are not going to have a season this year at all. Basically they are just trying to come to an agreement to have a full season next year.

Sounds to me like they've shot themselves in the foot, and now stopped to reload.

    Un-cancelled, re-cancelled. I think reds44 is actually Ralph Wiggum.

As the NHL changes its mind, so will the name of this thread
