Here's the story on their site. NHL has agreed to terms including a salary cap. They still might play this season - though it hasn't been determined yet.

Oh, joy! They have time to get in, what 20 games? If they award the Stanley Cup at the end of this "season", it will be a farce. Just cancel the season and move on.

I'd be curious to know what percentage of the U.S. population actually cares whether they come back or not.

Help stamp out, eliminate, and do away with redundancy.

No thanks, save the league by playing the game.

    I care, I care a lot.

Maybe this way the Blue Jackets will have a chance to make the playoffs.

All they need to do is get hot for a couple of weeks, and blammo! Nationwide Arena hosting NHL playoff games.

    That would be sweet.

    Bring on the season!

    1995 is MLB 1981... 2005 is MLB 1994.

Burning the sucker down accomplishes nothing (as I have been saying all along) the best business is to do business. Lost of folks care about the game and are tired of the game of labor chicken both parties engageed in and they turned them off. The lack of emotion at the canceling of the season was enough to get all the kings horses and all the kings men together to see if they could put humpty back together again.

Now who as yolk on their face? Both parties, contrite little boys will cut a deal and in 60 days when they are playing playoff hockey (which any real hockey fan knows is just as important and more fun than the regular season) all will be well..... a little sour perhaps but NHL Hockey is the pinnacle and everyone likes to watch the best.

Of course I expect folks to say, who cares and ladee da.... and all that.

But most of them don't follow the game even when it's healthy, that in turn makes their opinions worthless to the game in the long run... they'll find something else to hate on when the idiots in the suits stop talking and they fire up the zamboni.

My thoughts exactly. I am a Penguins fan deep down but I still cheer the boys in blue. It would be quite awesome to see Rick Nash score up a storm in the playoffs!

I'm not exactly a hockey fan. Growing up in the south, I was never around it. BUT, I'm glad they're working things out.

So there will be an asterick by NHL 2005. At least there will be one. And an NHL 2006.

Re: NHL agrees to terms - season may be uncancelled

woy, i wasn't saying I didn't think they should play. I'm 300 miles from an NHL market, so I don't have a strong opinion either way.

Until they won again in 2002, the Spurs had to put up with critics who affixed a stigma to winning a championship in the '99 strike/lockout (I forget which) shortened season. Whoever wins the Stanley Cup in '05 is going to be saddled with the same criticism. IMHO, the stigma will be both deserved and unfortunate. But champions they will be, nonetheless.

I do like the notion of a hard salary cap to keep the league solvent and protect the owners from each other. I want that for MLB, too - but I'm not hopeful it will happen in the foreseeable future.
