That's more happy birthday to professional baseball, that team disbanded and most of them moved to Boston and eventually became the Boston NL team. The Next Reds were formed in August of 1875 and played in the 1876 NL Season. But that team was booted from the NL in October of 1880. The current incarnation of the Reds was born on 11-2-1881. Making them currently 123 years old, making them and the Cardinals and the Pirates the 3rd oldest franchises after Atlanta and Chicago.Originally Posted by NJReds
Just out of curiosity- using this logic do you disagree with the Reds inducting the Wright brother into the Hall of Fame this summer?Originally Posted by westofyou
No, because they were "Reds" and they are the reason Professional Ball will always be linked to Cincinnati. The Reds HOF won't ever enter any Cincinnati Unions or any of Kellys Killers, but the begining of pro ball for the whole nine is worthy of grabbing on to and waving around with pride. As long as they don't try and mask it as a continuous process. The early instability of MLB and the Mid East is key to how the power structure of the league is set up even today, I myself find it more interesting than just declaring that the Reds have been here since 1869.Originally Posted by Donder

Happy Birthday to...the braves then?
Go Gators!
Maybe it's more of an honor for the city than the organization. I think Cincinnati has more of a "spiritual" claim to the birthday than the Cincinnati disbanded alumni-Boston-Milwaukee-Atlanta-Ted Turner-AOL-Time Warner Braves.Originally Posted by westofyou
