    Robert Blake Acquitted of Murder

By GREG RISLING, Associated Press Writer

LOS ANGELES - A jury acquitted tough-guy actor Robert Blake (news) of murder Wednesday in the shooting death of his wife four years ago, a stunning verdict in a case that played out like pulp fiction.

The jury also acquitted Blake of one charge of trying to get someone to kill his wife, but deadlocked on a second solicitation charge.

The 71-year-old star of the 1970s detective drama "Baretta" dropped his head, trembled with emotion, and let out several deep breaths after the verdict was read.

The jury of seven men and five women delivered the verdicts on its ninth day of deliberations, following a trial with a cast a characters that included two Hollywood stuntmen who said Blake tried to get them to bump off his wife.

Blake had faced life in prison; prosecutors did not seek the death penalty.

Blake was charged with shooting 44-year-old Bonny Lee Bakley to death in their car outside the actor's favorite Italian restaurant on May 4, 2001, less than six months after their marriage.

Didn't really follow this case much; but from what I had read it appeared to me that he did it. I saw similarities (motives) with this case and Scott Peterson's.

    So.....

Next on the agenda?..... Phil Spector.

Phil Spector... a poster child for Just Say No To Drugs.

Is Jerry Lee Lewis still alive and married? Never know when he'll drop Final Justice on a spouse.

O.J.? Ah... I had to be 1st to say his name.

Re: Robert Blake Acquitted of Murder

Article from USA Today. Apparently the DA hasn't read the "How to Get Re-elected in 10 Easy Steps" Manual...

DA says Robert Blake jurors were stupid

LOS ANGELES (AP) District Attorney Steve Cooley says Robert Blake was "guilty as sin" and the jurors who acquitted him of murder were "incredibly stupid."

A jury last week found the former Baretta star not guilty in the 2001 slaying of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, who was shot in a car outside a restaurant where the couple had dined.

"Quite frankly, based on my review of the evidence, he is as guilty as sin. He is a miserable human being," Cooley said Wednesday.

Blake's attorney, M. Gerald Schwartzbach, said the district attorney's attack on the jurors was inappropriate and "small-minded."

Juror Chuck Safko said: "To hear him say we aren't a smart jury is sour grapes. They didn't have a good case. Their case was built around witnesses who weren't truthful."
