Wayne (WV) High School (my alma mater) won it season opener yesterday. So?
What I thought made that story, well, neat was that it was the first time in two years that Army Reserve Sgt. 1st Class Millie Brooks got to see her twin sons, Justin and Jeremy, play. Millie has spent the last two years on active duty, serving in Iraq.
Millie threw out the first pitch, caught by Justin, Wayne's catcher.
In the third inning, Justin hit what Millie said was "his first home run ever. Ever. I'm glad I didn't miss it." It was a grand slam and keyed the Pioneers 11-4 victory. Justin went 3-3 with 5 RBI and Jeremy pitched two innings in relief.
I love baseball when things such as this happen.
