4-20 vs Pirates [Perez vs Wilson]

Looks to be another tough one for the boys in Red tonight. Pittsburgh starter Oliver Perez has was 4-0 against the Reds with a 1.59 ERA and seemingly double digit strikeouts each time he faced them last year. This year he is off to a less than stellar 0-2 start with an ERA in the 9's. His control seems to be off as he only has 16 Ks and 12 BBs thru 15 IPs.

For the Reds, the ever reliable Paul Wilson gets the start. He's 3-1 lifetime against the Bucs with a respectable 3.26 ERA. He's 0-1 with an era of 6.35 this year in 3 starts.

The Reds were 9-10 last season against the Pirates, a team they should own if they want to compete for the division title.

    It's all about tim--time--timing

We catch the Buccos getting beat up on and with their ace pitching after a rough start, both the team and Perez are due for a good game. But he's got to beat Wilson....

    My lineup
Freel - has hit well off of Perez
    Randa
Casey - he is 11-22 off of Perez
    Kearns
Dunn - .967 OPS against Perez
    Pena
    Aurilia
    larue

Jr has a .000 OPS as he is 0-10 against Perez.

Perez is going to get smoked tonight.

Dunn needs to be moved up in the lineup.

Twice Randa got out the third out the other night with men on base and the next inning Dunn led off with HR's. Now I know that they're going to picth dunn different with men on base, but still.

I agree, the Randa hitting 4th experiment is over. Either make it Dunn, or just as well to make it the RFer, be it Kearns or Pena. Either way, Randa back to 6th. Less pressure, more production.

I hate it when the Reds face struggling teams. That's all I'll say on the matter.

That's because the quality Reds pitching usually gets them out of their slump.

    I agree.

I would bat Dunn anywhere from second to fourth. Preferably 2nd to get him more atbats.

I don't know. he's not off to a good start against them this year (0 for 10) but his career splits are pretty damn good.

    Code:
G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB K SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS
     vs. Left 339 549 74 133 27 0 36 87 88 192 9 6 .242 .359 .488 .847
     vs. Right 508 1219 247 307 69 5 86 194 265 387 28 8 .252 .391 .528 .919

Last year it was 1.015 to .829. An almost 200 point diff in OPS is very significant. In the last year we have seen him really improve against RH pitching. I think it will come in time against LH pitching, we just haven't seen it yet.

True, but that's more a testiment to his strength overall, rather than his "weakness" against LH pitchers.

Look at Casey. His lifetime OPS against LH is .762 (although last year it was .891 and I like to think last year was more indicicative of Casey's talent level and previous years were marred by injuries)

Griffey's lifetimne against LH's is .878, last year it was .682. Ouch.

It's time for WMP to get KGJ ab's against LH's.
