    This outfield is lousy with guys with all kinds of problems: Griffey has the instinct but not the wheels, Pena has the wheels but zero instinct, and Dunn's a statue.

    Probably comes from the days when all bottles were corked as opposed to capped.

    And I suspect the reason that idiom has stuck is that when you watch a game on TV a wild pitch resembles a cork bouncing off a linoleum floor.
