Rudy Giuliani or Christie Whitman would get me excited for the GOP side. I'm less well-versed in the Dems, but would pay attention if a "Blue Dog" emerged. The nearest Blue Dog example to me is Henry Cuellar, but he's a mere freshman in the House.
My idol in the House during the 90's was Scott Klug, Republican from Wisconsin. I would have followed that guy into a burning building. He retired once it was no longer fashionable to be a moderate.

Bill Richardson, maybe not the best choice, but he is popular out west. And he might be able to pick up Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado for the Dems.

but it won't be before 2020, I hope I'm wrong but we've been electing middle age white guys for 200 plus years, it will be 2-4 elections in a row of a serious candidate giving it a shot before one gets elected.

Richardson was one guy I thought that Kerry should have chosen as his runningmate. I thought he was more likely to deliver a state or two to the ticket than was Edwards.
I'd guess we are more likely to see a woman President first, but I then agree with KronoRed-an Hispanic President is probably more likely than an African-American President.
