BTW, I thought the Dawn remake was quite solid, if one divested one's self from their memories of the original. Romero's was a psychological thriller (despite the pork intestines ending) whereas the remake was a straight-up action-horror flick.

There are some other Dead fans on here too (Jaycint, RosieRed, and savafan, IIRC), so...

I am really looking forward to this. They screened about 14 minutes of this at the Cannes film festival and from what I have read the fans loved the part of the movie they showed.

    I can't wait.

I enjoyed the Dawn of the Dead remake as well though, so I guess maybe I'm not too picky when it comes to zombies. I mean why should you be? They're zombies.

    And zombies are awesome.

Yes, I can't wait for Land of the Dead to come out. I'll probably skip work the day it opens and catch a matinee, that's how big of a dork I am, lol. I am a big fan of Romero's stuff (zombie stuff in particular but his other stuff is decent too).

As for the Dawn remake, I loved it. Intense, scary, well paced, I thought it was great. I think most of the people that dislike it are trying to compare it to the original. Two different types of movies in my opinion, as was discussed a little bit above. The remake was an action flick with a horror slant, the original was more of a social commentary/horror flick with more well developed relationships among the characters. They both have their strengths and weaknesses in my opinion. If you put a gun to my head I like the original better though.

I never said that i didnt like the remake of dawn, but it didnt get very good reviews, and this one sounds like it will be awesome, compared to dawn, the only thing i didnt like about dawn is that while the credits rolled they all died, or we think so, id like to see a sequal of that.

I'd like to see a sequel to it too, maybe Sara Polley and Ving Rhames characters are able to jump back on the boat and push off just in time before the zombies reach the end of the pier or something like that. Of course I'm down for just about any zombie movie.

    Re: Dead series

I actually saw the remake before the original and that made it even worse, I think. The remake struck me as pretty stupid and just not very well made in general. The characters were anything but compelling, especially the stupid relationship between Mekhi Phifer and his Russian girlfriend. I could have really done without that.

The ending of the remake was about its only saving grace. The scene where they were in the armored cars was pretty hardcore, especially when that one guy caught a chainsaw in the face. And the final scene, with the two survivors finding more zombies, I liked that.

But the original was far superior. Even though the special effects are hideously outdated by now, the characters were much better. It didn't rely as much on horror/grossout type stuff, so the special effects didn't make so much of a difference. And even though the ending of the remake was its best part, the ending of the original trumped it. I loved the way it played out.

    Re: Dead series

Romero is in that realm of territory with Lucas for me. Dawn of the Dead and NOTLD [originals] were some tremendous films that I loved dearly. Now they are no where near Star Wars, but I love Romero none-the-less, so I am looking so very forward to Land of the Dead. When I went to see RotS last week I just stood there staring at the poster for the film.

    Can't wait.

    Oh, remakes are the devil.

    Cincinnati Bengals - None
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

    Re: Dead series

Perhaps the mistake they made with the remake was actually naming it "Dawn of the Dead". If they had gone with a different title and not proclaimed it as Zack Snyder's "re-envisioning" of the original I think it would have taken a lot less heat.

By the way, at the end of the re-make there are 4 people all together on the boat that lands on the island: Ving Rhames character, Sara Polley's character, the one mall security cop and the girl who's dad they had to kill because he was infected.

    Re: Dead series

I should have mentioned this earlier, but it's my opinion that "28 Days Later" was a far superior movie to the "DoD" remake.

"28 Days Later" had compelling characters (especially the father-daughter relationship) combined with some real shock moments. Also, the zombies actually looked scary. And on top of that, the movie was shot brilliantly. It really was a work of art.

The "DoD" remake--well, I've already been down this road. The characters were really weak.

I do agree that it would have done better as a stand-alone film. Living up to the original is tough to do.
