Reds vs Pirates -5/27/05- (Randa Back,Dunn at 1st)

    Starting Lineups
    No. Cincinnati
    1 Ryan Freel, 2B
    2 Felipe Lopez, SS
    3 Ken Griffey Jr., CF
    4 Austin Kearns, RF
    5 Adam Dunn, 1B
    6 Joe Randa, 3B
    7 Jacob Cruz, LF
    8 Javier Valentin, C
    9 Ramon Ortiz, P

    No. Pittsburgh
    1 Matt Lawton, RF
    2 Tike Redman, CF
    3 Jason Bay, LF
    4 Daryle Ward, 1B
    5 Rob Mackowiak, 3B
    6 Jose Castillo, 2B
    7 Freddy Sanchez, SS
    8 David Ross, C
    9 Josh Fogg, P

So-so lineup for the players used, still don't understand why Dunn is playing at 1st and Cruz is playing in LF and not the opposite.
Wish Miley would switch Dunn And Griffey in the batting order.

    Better lineup then last night

Freel and Lopez should be permanently in the top 2 spots and at 2nd and SS
    Go Gators!

Dunn is obviously the backup 1st baseman, if Casey can't play it looks like Dunn gets slid to 1st. The more difficult position and one he'll most likely end up at sooner than later.

I like Randa and all but simply not enough protection for our best offensive player. Dunn consistentily hitting 5th this year should be the number one thing people remember when they start trying to defend Miley after he's fired.

I don't think a player of Dunn's caliber should need any protection. But I think he should be higher in the lineup to due to his OBP, and let others drive HIM in. If he's getting pitched around, and seriously, who on this team would pitchers fear enough that they would pitch to Dunn to get to, then logically he should be higher in the order.

I like Dunn batting 5th, he strikes out to much to bat 3rd. Griffey strikes out a lot but not as much as Dunn. I prefer the higher chance of putting the ball in play if you have 1 out and 1 man on.

Looks good. Compared to last nights lineup, this looks like an all-star cast.

    Should be a win...

In 52.1 IP against the Reds Fogg has a 3.61 ERA
Ortiz has never faced the Pirates
The only Pirate with an AB against him is Lawton who is 4 for 14 against him

Some Reds Batters vs Josh Fogg (Career)
    Code:
Player AB H HR BB SO AVG
    Griffey 12 4 2 2 1 .333
    Freel 9 3 0 0 0 .333
    Dunn 16 5 2 2 2 .313

He should be batting 3rd if for no other reason than the extra 50 or so AB's he's pick up every year. Also, even though he has no one of equal "scariness" on this team to protect him, letting him get AB's with men on base and 2 or 3 above average hitters behind him gives opponents a lot more of a problem with walking him than Randa and 2 automatic outs after that imo.

Putting the ball in play can lead to double plays

Getting the Lizard out of the starting rotation will mean less of Valentin, trading/axing Ortiz will mean even less of Valentin. Good

The problem may be that putting the ball in play may result in a Double Play Griffey has Grounded Out 41 times this year vs. Dunn Grounding Out 28 times. And we have seen that many off Griffey's groundouts are capable of being turned for a Double Play (as are Dunn's but Dunn Grounds out less).
