Green Acres' Star Eddie Albert Dies at 99

Green Acres was one of my favorite shows growing up. Eddie Albert was one of the few remaining stars of the CBS rural comedies.

AP - 2 hours, 21 minutes ago LOS ANGELES - Eddie Albert, the actor best known as the constantly befuddled city slicker-turned-farmer in television's "Green Acres," has died. He was 99.

I didn't realize he was that old. Green Acres was of my favorite "rerun" shows I grew up with. RIP.

Ironically he died the same day as the remake of "The Longest Yard" came out where he played the warden.

Excellent TV show. I felt so sorry for the guy having to deal with not only his dingy wife Lisa, but the local populace. It would have drove anyone insane.

I think it was either rfs Or rem who said they have played golf/tennis with the guy who played Eb.

When we heard that Eddie Albert died and he was 99 (I had no clue he was that old), my son said "He was starting up his 2nd hill".

I posted this before I read the story at the link. Buoyed by the money he made from "Green Acres," he apparently had quite a philanthropic career, too.

I was thinking the same thing...who could forget that scene where Reynolds was walking away and Arnold wanted the guard to "shoot him!"?

(Then Stephen King came along and ratcheted the evil warden up a few notches in "The Shawshank Redemption")

I love Eddie Albert as the peddler in the movie version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma.

Green acres is the place for me.
Farm livin' is the life for me.
Land spreadin' out so far and wide.
Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside.

New York is where I'd rather stay.
    I get allergic smelling hay.
I just adore a penthouse view.
Dah-ling I love you but give me Park Avenue.

    ...The chores.
    ...The stores.
    ...Fresh air.
    ...Times Square

    You are my wife.
    Good bye, city life.
    Green Acres we are there.
She used to wake me up with coffee ever morning

Best Eddie Albert movie role (imo)...as Gregory Peck's photographer buddy in "Roman Holiday"...got an Oscar nomination for it I believe.

Eddie Albert was also in The Longest Day and was very good at this minor role in this movie. Green Acres was one of the best just purely silly comedy's. I watched a few of these shows on TVLand the other night and I still laugh at them. RIP Eddie Albert.

Green Acres is an absurdist sitcom work of art. Someday everyone will realize this.
