I was talking to a couple of friends this week. One just got engaged. The other is married. Both met their partners through online dating services.
My uncle also met his wife this way.
I'm so amazed at how common this is. I really don't think I'd have the guts.
Any of you try this sort of thing? What were your experiences like?

I've been a member of an online dating service for a while. I've met some nice women -- dated a few of them -- but nothing has lasted. I've had better luck doing the "speed dating" thing. Even if you don't make a match with anyone it's a fun way to spend an evening.
But as of right now I'm still single, so nothing has worked for me yet!
I have tried it before with varying degrees of success. I have met some genuinely nice women this way and one in particular turned into a year long relationship. I think it's a much better way to meet new people than going to a bar or club. With the online thing you can try to get a feel for the person a little bit through email and instant messaging before actually meeting them which is safer in my opinion.
