Commentator said in the 1st round you always draft best available. He said that Bruce was rated by some teams as the No. 4 player available, so the Reds should be happy w/ him.
Lord knows you don't want to pass on Nomar to take C.J. Nitkowski, just because he's a college pitcher only a fool would do that. But then again you could pick Dante Powell.

Bruce may be a great talent but I have a feeling DanO won't be around to see him play at GABP.

Bowden couldn't take Maybin because he didn't have the money, but he would have been all over Maybin if he had it(Where have I heard that before?).

Wow, it's nice that we made a first round pick that looks real good 5 minutes after draft day.

DanO and Reynolds made a good call here. We need everything in our system. I feel a lot more confident about making Bruce a MLer than another HS pitcher.

    Re: 2005 Draft

So are they at the end of the first round? I have a friend that is expecting to be picked in the second round. A HS pitcher. He's a lefty, about 6'8" throws a fastball in the low 90's, has hit as high as 94, a good splitter and a change. He has started working on a curve. Cards, Cubs, BoSox, and a few other teams have payed a lot of attn to him. Supposedly the reds are out of the picture though. He pitched for New Richmond HS, Dave Duncan is his name.

IMO there's not a HS arm worth taking with the #60 pick. BA rates a whole pile of them from 34 to 63 (13 to be exact), but I like the college arms rated behind them better.

The Marlins are LOADING up on power pitchers. No surprise.
