So Cincy has played the Blue Jays since '99?
    2003. Jays took 2 of 3.
    I miss Adam Dunn.

I have little doubt at this point that Bowden, despite his warts, was a better GM than DanO. Although that's not a risky thing for me to say as I was generally an appologist for Bowden throughout his tenure.

Nevertheless, I will say that DanO's trades thusfar haven't been that bad, even though adding Ortiz was stupid, the lose of Mosely really amounts to nothing in the long run as his chances for success in the Majors are limited at best.

DanO's real problem thusfar has been how he has dealt with Arb/FA's and the trades that he chose not to make. Signing Milton, Wilson, Jimenez, Larue, Aurilia, and Randa hasn't worked out well, and not trading Graves and Casey last year when the Reds had the opportunity was likely a big mistake.

If the Reds hadn't signed Milton and Wilson and had traded Casey and Graves last year, they would be in prime position to improve IMO. They'd have some talent, some payflex, and some roster flexibility.

The Reds right now have too many players on their 40 man roster that are marginal MLB players. I expect them to really revamp to 40 man after the season.

EE quite likely would have out produced Randa, that's for sure. But calling him up so soon also increases the chances that he'll fail, which may hurt his long term developement as well as start his arb clock. Randa is a safe, marketable guy who is positioning himself quite nicely as a semi valuable flip at the the trade deadline. If the Reds actually have the guts to pull that off I'd be happily surprised. I think EE has done well enough at AAA to warrant the job in 2006, so the Reds might as well flip Randa now.

I think it's quite likely that EE would not be playing at Randa's level of production, few Rookies do. He's at .372,.485,.857, which is quite abit above average for a 3rdbaseman.

I thought Randa would be a market-level fair deal at 2 million (@ .800 OPS), but the guy's clearly exceeded expectations so far.

For sure, he has provided a steady RH bat with good bat on ball skills with some pop (this team wasn't getting that from Kearns and Pena was in and out) His fielding has been very steady too. Joe is a ballplayer, he's the least of teh problems. as for EE, I prefer to not get an Arb clock ticking just yet. In the era of free agency the challenge the hitter theory should take a hit to insure maximum return on player investment. (Bill James once advocated teams wringing every last ounce they could from a pitcher in his pre FA years)
