Belle & Sebastian - The Life Pursuit (very good album, I enjoy it much better than Dear Catastrophe Waitress, which I thought was disappointing)

I'm a big McCartney fan. Has anyone heard his latest?... Chaos and Creation in the Backyard? Thinking about picking it up on the way to work.

It's pretty good GAC. It's a little "precious" or "twee" as they say in England. It definately doesn't ROCK or anything.

[Q] From Peppel: “In your answer to the question about goody two shoes on the web site, there is a word twee. I can’t find it, other than a noise made by a small bird, and I would like to know its meaning.”

[A] Ah yes, another of my curious Briticisms. It means excessively or affectedly quaint, sentimental or mawkish, sometimes coupled with words like nauseatingly. It’s a strongly negative word, and a very useful one, that is in common British use. It appeared at the beginning of the twentieth century to mean something dainty or sweet, a girly and gushing word. It appears to have developed from tweet, not the noise a bird makes, but a childish attempt at saying sweet. It might have been helped along by a feeling that it could be a blend of tiny and wee (Scots for small), though it isn’t.

Picked it up last night and listened to it. Typical, pure McCartney. It definitely is alot more mellower (or melancholy) than his last couple of efforts. I really enjoyed the Flaming Pie and Driving Rain albums.

I also got a few older albums (CDs) I've been listening to (which shows my age even further)....

A Space In Time - Ten Years After
    Machine Head - Deep Purple
    Uriah Heep Greatest Hits

That Sir Paul album is spectacular in my opinion. I listen to it almost daily.

I have every one of his solo efforts and also some rare recordings (live performances, etc).

I made up a double CD of McCartney about a year ago. It really doesn't have any of his hits or really recognizable songs (I already have all of those); but is made up of miscellaneous songs off of all his solo albums.

I titled it after one of his earlier songs... Singalong Junk.

Like the songs "Too Much Rain" "Fine Line".

His writing has taken a more serious tone about life anymore, and the void that has been created since he lost Linda and his kids are all grown and gone. It seems, anyway to me, that alot of his songs are written with Linda in mind.

I love that tune, it's catchy as all get out and has a big ole Pet Sounds feel to it.
