    What am I listening to?

The Stone Roses, "I Want to be Adored."

Their self-titled debut album is awesome. The second one isn't bad either.
    Makes all the routine posts.

One of those bands that most people have never heard of. I had two of their CDS, lost them in a move and then picked up their greatest hits about a year ago. Great stuff. "I have a dream, I’ve seen the light Don’t put it out, say she’s alright, yeah,
    she’s my sister."

Some things that have been in and out of my CD player the past week:

System of a Down - The screaming vocals and driving music mixed with some of the best pop hooks around make for something very cool. And tough to describe to anyone.

    Springsteen: Devils and Dust

Foo Fighters - In Your Honor - this one hasn't caught on with me yet, but it will.

    Coldplay: X & Y. Shouldn't like them but I do. Hopefully another generation's U2 - I don't mind being too old for great music.

    I agree.

I've been listening to 30 Seconds to Mars a LOT lately (new album comes out Aug. 16!!), and I throw in the new Better than Ezra when I need a break from 30STM.

Love 'em. And easy to play on the guitar! First time listen will turn most people off. You just have to "get it" with SOAD. All 3 CDs (the original ones) are kickin' stuff IMO.

In my experience, I've never found a bad who's stuff is easier to play than System of a Down. Good stuff.

I mostly just listen to XM 54 - Lucy.

If I have a particular jones for an album I'll flip on my iPod with my entire collection and listen to that.

Oh yeah, I've seen it. The rise and fall of the Hacienda. Makes me wish I'd grown up in Madchester in the late 80s/early 90s.

On the other hand, if you've ever seen the late great A&E TV show "Cracker", staring the incomperable Robbie Coltrane, you would know that there are a lot of nuts in Manchester. Heck of a socer team though.

I'm way late on the uptake here, but I had to put in that manchester still has a great music scene. Nothing like what it was then (you list all those 80s/early 90s bands all at once and it's almost unbelievable), but still quite unique albeit not as well known. A lot of stuff there is different to everything else being produced now, and Manchester musicians don't necessarily feel the need to head to London or the US like they do from almost ever other city in Britain, so they continue to build up their own great stuff without sounding like everybody else. It's kind of like a bubble over there. There's a ton of good modern stuff to check out from there and it's definitely a place well worth visiting if you want to see some good shows and talk to geniunely passionate musicians.

    [end Manchester selling point]

I'm listening to Kelley Stoltz's new album, which I like a whole whole lot.

There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.
