Absolutely. I am happy that I got to see Vegas before it all changed in the summer of 1979. It wasn't the same as the early to mid 60s but it was still Vegas then. We drove out there from Northen KY and my dad took Rt 66 for a good stretch. I was amazed (my parents weren't surprised though) at how many people (dealers, casino workers, etc.) knew where Newport, KY was. People would ask where we were from, we'd tell them an they'd ask if we were close to Newport, I was just amazed. Sorry to go off topic.
What happened to Vegas in the summer of 79?
There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.
I worded it wrong. I was there in 1979 before Vegas really started changing in the 80s and 90s. It was pretty much still old Vegas at that time. Nothing changed in that year particularly, but in '79 it was still the old strip with cheap dinners and drinks and names on the marques like Dean Martin and Rich Little. I remember the casinos having signs advertising free champagne from midnight till 6:00 and then free bloody marys from 6:00 till noon. Not so much the glittery Disney it started turning in to.
Las Vegas is just....depressing. I can't put a finger on it.

Driving back from taking my daughter back to college in northern Indiana, I got tired of trying to find a decent station, so I plopped my Traveling Wilburys (the first one, which I think they call Volume 2) in the tape player. That is one fine album.
