Some defense for some of the tunes named in the thread:
"I Will Follow" - I'm no great lover of U2, but come on, it was the opening act of the biggest band to emerge from the decade and it's got that great ringing guitar that didn't sound like anything else you'd heard up until that moment in time.
"She Blinded Me With Science" and "Der Kommisar" - Again, synth was never my thing, but those could be on the short list of best synth tunes ever made. I understand not liking a genre, but at least pick the actual bad stuff from it.
"Sunglasses at Night" - It's a catchy tune. I can tap my toe to it. Why would I wear sunglasses at night? I don't know either, but it's a way better tune than Hart's follow up "Never Surrender".
"Cherry Pie" - Guilty pleasure though I recognize it's not a good song. That said, it's still the BEST song Warrant ever made.
"Wishing Well" - In a decade of soulless soul, programmed rhythm and pastel blues, Terrence Trent D'Arby managed to cut a tune with some actual soul heft to it. The man deserves a medal for it.
Count me as another vote for "We Built This City". There's a radio station in Danbury, CT (I-95 for anyone interested in self-inflicted torment) that still plays it in heavy rotation with Triumph's "Magic Power" (another claw your eyes out tune).
