    The Misfits "Last Caress"

(I can't really post the lyrics here)
"It's easier to give up. I'm not a very vocal player. I lead by example. I take the attitude that I've got to go out and do it. Because of who I am, I've got to give everything I've got to come back."

    Love that song. Jackson Browne.

I was thinking "Late for the Sky." Best break-up lyrics evah.

Can't go wrong with "Pretender" for lyrics either. That one's almost too obvious.

I'd like to know the song title and artist for the lyrics posted here. If I like the lyrics, I just might want to give the song a listen.

BTW - here are my favorite lyrics for today:

    "I've seen you
Fire up the gas in the engine valves
I've seen your hand turn saintly on the radio dial
    I've seen the airwaves
    Pull your eyes towards heaven
Outside Topeka in the phone lines
Her good teeth smile was winding down"

I tried to go back and edit my posts to include song title and artist, but it won't let me.

So: In my first post, the song is "Attack", by 30 Seconds to Mars.

In my second post, all the songs are by Ani Difranco.
    1. Little Plastic Castle
    2. As Is
    3. Glass House
    4. Untouchable Face

Now you should go listen to all of those, especially the first one. :

    Tuesday afternoon.
    I'm just beginning to see,
    Now I'm on my way.
    It doesn't matter to me,
    Chasing the clouds away.
    Something calls to me.
The trees are drawing me near,
I've got to find out why.
    Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh.

I'm looking at myself, reflections of my mind.
It's just the kind of day to leave myself behind.
So gently swaying through the fairy-land of love,

If you could just come with me and see the beauty of
    Tuesday afternoon.
    Tuesday afternoon.

    Tuesday afternoon.
    I'm just beginning to see,
    Now I'm on my way.
    It doesn't matter to me,
    Chasing the clouds away.

    Something calls to me.
The trees are drawing me near,
I've got to find out why.
    Those gentle voices I hear

    (m. jagger/k. richards)

    I’m a fleabit peanut monkey
    All my friends are junkies
    That’s not really true

    I’m a cold italian pizza
I could use a lemon squeezer
    What you do?

But I’ve been bit and I’ve been tossed around
By every she-rat in this town
    Have you, babe?

Well, I am just a monkey man
I’m glad you are a monkey woman too

I was bitten by a boar
I was gouged and I was gored
    But I pulled on through

Yes, I’m a sack of broken eggs
I always have an unmade bed
    Don’t you?

Well, I hope we’re not too messianic
    Or a trifle too satanic
We love to play the blues

Well I am just a monkey man
I’m glad you are a monkey, monkey woman too, babe

    I’m a monkey
    I’m a monkey
    I’m a monkey man
    I’m a monkey man
    I’m a monkey
School's out. What did you expect?

Re: What are your favorite song lyrics?

When you're lost in the rain in Juarez
    And it's Eastertime too
    And your gravity fails
And negativity don't pull you through
    Don't put on any airs
When you're down on Rue Morgue Avenue
They got some hungry women there
And they really make a mess outa you

Now if you see Saint Annie
Please tell her thanks a lot
    I cannot move
My fingers are all in a knot
    I don't have the strength
To get up and take another shot
And my best friend, my doctor
Won't even say what it is I've got

    Sweet Melinda
The peasants call her the goddess of gloom
    She speaks good English
And she invites you up into her room
    And you're so kind
And careful not to go to her too soon
    And she takes your voice
And leaves you howling at the moon

    Up on Housing Project Hill
    It's either fortune or fame
You must pick up one or the other
Though neither of them are to be what they claim
If you're lookin' to get silly
You better go back to from where you came
Because the cops don't need you
And man they expect the same

    Now all the authorities
They just stand around and boast
    How they blackmailed the sergeant-at-arms
    Into leaving his post
    And picking up Angel who
Just arrived here from the coast
Who looked so fine at first
But left looking just like a ghost

    I started out on burgundy
But soon hit the harder stuff
Everybody said they'd stand behind me
    When the game got rough
But the joke was on me
There was nobody even there to call my bluff
I'm going back to New York City
I do believe I've had enough
School's out. What did you expect?

Re: What are your favorite song lyrics?

    Aurora borealis
    The icy sky at night
    Paddles cut the water
In a long and hurried flight
    From the white man
    to the fields of green
    And the homeland
    we've never seen.

They killed us in our tepee
And they cut our women down
They might have left some babies
    Cryin' on the ground
    But the firesticks
    and the wagons come
    And the night falls
    on the setting sun.

    They massacred the buffalo
    Kitty corner from the bank
The taxis run across my feet
And my eyes have turned to blanks
    In my little box
at the top of the stairs
    With my Indian rug
    and a pipe to share.

    I wish a was a trapper
    I would give thousand pelts
    To sleep with Pocahontas
And find out how she felt
    In the mornin'
    on the fields of green
    In the homeland
    we've never seen.

    And maybe Marlon Brando
Will be there by the fire
We'll sit and talk of Hollywood
And the good things there for hire
    And the Astrodome
    and the first tepee
    Marlon Brando, Pocahontas and me
    Marlon Brando, Pocahontas and me
School's out. What did you expect?

Take a long drive with me
    On California one, california one
Take a long drive with me
    On California one, California one...

    And the road a-winding goes
From golden gate to roaring cliff-side
And the light is softly low as our hearts Become sweetly untied
Beneath the sun of california one

Take a long drown with me of california Wine

And the wine it tastes so sweet
As we lay our eyes to wander
And the sky, it stretches deep

Will we rest our heads to slumber Beneath the vines of california wine?
Beneath the sun of california one

Annabelle lies, sleeps with quiet eyes
    on this sea-drift sun
    what can you do?
and if i said, O it's in your head
    on this sea-drift sun
    what can you do?

we're calling all bed wetters and ambulance chasers
    poor picker-pockets, bring 'em in
come join the youth and beauty brigade

    we're lining up the light-loafere'd
    and the bored bench warmers
castaways and cutouts, fill it up
come join the youth and beauty brigade
nothing will stand in our way

i figured i had paid my debt to society
by paying my overdue fines at the mulnoma county library, at the library
they said 'son, go join up
go join the youth and beauty brigade'

nothing will stand in our way

    and

    We are two mariners
    Our ship's sole survivors
In this belly of a whale
    It's ribs are ceiling beams
    It's guts are carpeting
I guess we have some time to kill

    You may not remember me
I was a child of three
And you, a lad of eighteen
    But, I remember you
And I will relate to you
    How our histories interweave
    At the time you were
    A rake and a roustabout
    Spending all your money
    On the *****s and hounds
    (oh, oh)

    You had a charming air
    All cheap and debonair
My widowed mother found so sweet
And so she took you in
Her sheets still warm with him
Now filled with filth and foul disease
As time wore on you proved
    A debt-ridden drunken mess
    Leaving my mother
    A poor consumptive wretch
    (oh, oh)

    And then you disappeared
    Your gambling arrears
The only thing you left behind
    And then the magistrate
    Reclaimed our small estate
And my poor mother lost her mind
    Then, one day in spring
    My dear sweet mother died
    But, before she did
I took her hand as she, dying, cried:
    (oh, oh)

    "Find him, bind him
Tie him to a pole and break
    His fingers to splinters
Drag him to a hole until he
    Wakes up naked
    Clawing at the ceiling
    Of his grave"

    It took me fifteen years
    To swallow all my tears
Among the urchins in the street
    Until a priory
    Took pity and hired me
To keep their vestry nice and neat
But, never once in the employ
    Of these holy men
Did I ever, once turn my mind
    From the thought of revenge
    (oh, oh)

    One night I overheard
    The prior exchanging words
With a penitent whaler from the sea
    The captain of his ship
Who matched you toe to tip
    Was known for wanton cruelty
    The following day
    I shipped to sea
    With a privateer
    And in the whistle
    Of the wind
    I could almost hear
    (oh, oh)

    "Find him, bind him
Tie him to a pole and break
    His fingers to splinters
Drag him to a hole until he
    Wakes up naked
    Clawing at the ceiling
    Of his grave

There is one thing I must say to you
As you sail across the sea
Always, your mother will watch over you
As you avenge this wicked deed"

    And then, that fateful night
We had you in our sight
    After twenty months, it seemed
    Your starboard flank abeam
I was getting my muskets clean
When came this rumbling from beneath
    The ocean shook
    The sky went black
    And the captain wailed
    And before us grew
    The angry jaws
    Of a giant whale

    (oh..)

    Don't know how I survived
The crew all was chewed alive
I must have slipped between his teeth
    But, oh, what providence
    What divine intelligence
    That you should survive
    As well as me
It gives my eye great joy
To see your eyes fill with fear
    To lean in close
    And I will whisper
    The last words you'll hear
    (oh, oh)

Re: What are your favorite song lyrics?

    Sixteen military wives,
Thirty-two softly focused, brightly colored eyes,
    Staring at the natural tan,
of thirty-two gently clenching, wrinkled, little hands.

    Seventeen company men,
Out of which only twelve will make it back again.
Seargeant sent a letter to five,
Military wives, his tears drip down to ten little eyes.

Cheer them on to their rivals
Cause America can, and America can't say no
And America does, if America says it's so
    It's so

And the anchorperson on TV goes...
    La de da de da

    Fifteen celebrity mimes
Leaving their fifteen sorted wretched checkered lives
Will they find the solution in time
Using their fifteen pristine moderate liberal minds?

    Eighteen academy chairs
Out of which only seven really even care
Doling out a garment to five
Celebrity mimes, they're humbly taken by surprise

Cheer them on to their rivals
Cause America can, and America can't say no
And America does, if America says it's so
    It's so

And the anchorperson on TV goes...
La de da de da de-dadedade-da
La de da de da de-dadedade-da

    Fourteen cannibal kings
Wondering blindly what the dinner bell will bring
    Fifteen celebrity mimes
Served on a leafy bed th sixteen military wives

Cheer them on to their rivals
Cause America can, and America can't say no
And America does, if America says it's so
    It's so

And the anchorperson on TV goes...

"A long time ago came a man on a track
walking thirty miles with a pack on his back
and he put down his load where he thought it was the best
made a home in the wilderness
he built a cabin and a winter store
and he ploughed up the ground by the cold lake shore
and the other travellers came riding down the track
and they never went further, no, they never went back

then came the churches then came the schools
then came the lawyers then came the rules
then came the trains and the trucks with their loads
and the dirty old track was the telegraph road "

"Crossroads, seem to come and go, yeah.
The gypsy flies from coast to coast

    Knowing many, loving none,
    Bearing sorrow havin' fun,
But back home he'll always run
    To sweet melissa... mmm...

Freight train, each car looks the same, all the same.
And no one knows the gypsy's name

No one hears his lonely sigh,

There are no blankets where he lies.
In all his deepest dreams the gypsy flies
    With sweet melissa... mmm...

    Again the morning's come,
    Again he's on the run,
    Sunbeams shining through his hair,
Appearing not to have a care.
Well, pick up your gear and gypsy roll on, roll on.

Crossroads, will you ever let him go? (lord, lord)
Will you hide the dead man's ghost,
Or will he lie, beneath the clay,
Or will his spirit roll away?

But i know that he won't stay without melissa.

Yes i know that he won't stay without melissa.
