I like that song. It and nothing else comprise the top 1 list of all-time best songs.

"...every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end..." -- Semisonic, from "Closing Time"

    ************************************

    "And now, I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end, the way it all would go.
Our lives are better left to chance. I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance." -- Garth Brooks, from "The Dance"

    ***********************************************

"Sometimes I thank God for unanswered prayers
Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers" -- Garth Brooks, from Unanswered Prayers

    ********************************************

And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
    When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did -- Sir Elton John, from Candle In The Wind

Greatest lyric in the history of lyrics. Cash is truly the man.

    "I am the way
    I am the light
I am the dark inside the night
    I hear your hopes
    I feel your dreams
And in the darks I hear your screams
Don't turn away just take my hand
And when you make your final stand
    I'll be right there
    I'll never leave
All I ask of you is believe"
    -"Believe" by Savatage, Streets (1991)

"I don't know where the years have gone
Memories can only last so long
    Like faded photographs, forgotten songs
And the things I never knew
When the skin is thin, the heart shows through
Please believe me what I tell you is true

Where's the lights, turn 'em on again
One more night to believe and then
    Another note for my requiem
    A memory to carry on
The story's over when the crowds have gone"
-"When the Crowds Are Gone" by Savatage, Gutter Ballet (1989)

"As I lay there late at night
    Building castles in the air
Out of alibis and all those little lies
    And then I look inside
And pray that I don't care

    I don't care

    I don't care

Hey there you way out there in the distance"
-"Sleep" by Savatage, Edge of Thorns (1993)

    "The night is growing dark
    From somewhere deep within
    It shelters like an ark
    And always takes you in

    And the mind goes numb
    'Till it's feeling no pain
    And the soul cries out
    For a handful of rain"
-"Handful of Rain" by Savatage, Handful of Rain (1994)

"Take your answers and your promises, believe me I don't care
I have held on to your words until I found them only air
What good are your promises if you can always take them back?
Still, I hang on every word till my hands are bleeding"
-"One Child" by Savatage, Dead Winter Dead (1995)

"And all at once the waves were getting higher
And as they crashed I thought I heard them say
There'd be a time when men would all be wiser
    When everyone, everyone,
    Yes everyone is
    Saved"
-"Anymore" by Savatage, The Wake of Magellan (1997)

    "Jesus
    What's the reason
Every tear isn't weighed the same
Could you have died in vain
    If we have short memories

And Jesus would you then come down from your cross
Return every nail and say we are lost

And in the dark we seek your silent company
For each hope that arrives and fades from memory
Still after all this time our loss you won't concede
For in the dead of night the rumor is
    Your hands they still bleed
    Still bleed
    Still bleed
    Still bleed

    Jesus
    It would seem then
    That somehow you still trust
You have more faith than us
Perhaps that is how it should be"
-"The Rumor" by Savatage, Poets and Madmen (2001)

Scrap Irony, is it just me, or have you not been around these parts much for quite a while?

I would place your username in the RedsZone Hall of Fame, by the way. It has always been one of my favorites.

Thanks. Work keeps me from conributing as much as I'd like. (Last year, I taught, coached football, basketball, and sponsored two drama productions. I also took three classes for my master's.)

This year, I've already cut out football and am probably going to cut basketball, too, so I should have more time for important things like Redszone.

OK, I'm goin' out on a limb here, but here it is, an excerpt from Warrant's "Cherry Pie":

"swingin' in the kitchen cause she wanted me to feed her, so I mixed up the batter and she licked the beater"

I also want to add that as I've grown older, my musical tastes have changed greatly. Now I would never even consider this kind of "poetry" to listen to. When I was 19, I absolutely admired bands like this. Now when I look back I think what????? I wanted to look and act like these clowns.

    I would’ve kept you forever
    But we had to sever
It ended for both of us
    Faster than a...
    kill off this thinking
    It’s starting to sink in
    I’m losing control now
Without you I can finally see

Too many to mention. Depends on my mood.

    A few more:

in a coffee shop in a city
    which is every coffee shop
    in every city
on a day which is every day
    i pick up a magazine
    which is every magazine
and read a story then forgot it right away

they say goldfish have no memory
i guess their lives are much like mine
    the little plastic castle
    is a surprise every time
it's hard to say if they are happy
but they don't seem much to mind

    ************************************

    cuz when i look around
i think this, this is good enough
    and i try to laugh
    at whatever life brings
    cuz when i look down
i just miss all the good stuff
    when i look up
    i just trip over things

    ****************************

guess that push has come to this
so i guess this must be shove
but before you throw those stones at me
tell me what's your house made of
if you think you know what i'm doing wrong
you're going to have to get in line

    **************************

tell you the truth i prefer the worst of you
too bad you had to have a better half
    she's not really my type
but i think you two are forever
and i hate to say it but you're perfect together

Looking through some photographs I found inside a drawer
I was taken by a photograph of you
There were one or two I know you would have liked a little more
But they didn't show your spirit quite as true

You were turning 'round to see who was behind you
And I took your childhood laughter by surprise
And at the moment that my camera happened to find you
There was just a trace of sorrow in your eyes

Fountain of Sorrow - Jackson Browne
    ---------------------

    Where the vulture glides descending
    On an asphalt highway bending
Through libraries and museums, galaxies and stars
Down the windy halls of friendship
To the rose clipped by the bullwhip
    The motel of lost companions
Waits with heated pool and bar.

    Thasher - Neil Young
    -------

You told me once that you were mine alone forever
And I was yours 'till the end of eternity
But all our vows are broken now and you will never
Be the same except in memory.

Remember me when the candle lights are gleaming
Remember me at the close of a long, long day
It would be so sweet when all alone I'm dreaming
Just to know you still remember me.
