As I have commented here in the past I lost my rectum due to cancer 4 years ago. I am glad I am alive of course but the almost daily side effects can be maddening at times. To be blunt I have to use the restroom 15-20 times almost every day of the week. The doctor told me it would likely be this way b4 the surgeries so it is what it is. I have found over time the more I sit the more I have to go. As crazy as it sounds I hate sitting down. I have a sit down desk job that I actually love but its getting to where I'm off the floor 20% of the work day due to my condition. I try to stand up as much as possible but I am tied to the computer. I use FMLA when needed but I don't want to abuse it.
I recently asked an SSI attorney about possible disability. She basically told me she highly doubted it would be approved but even if it was it would take 2-4 years of red tape.Wow, you can have body parts removed and that's not good enough but drug addicts can be on disability?!?!?
The bottom line is I have discovered the more I am walking/standing up the better I feel. I would give anything to become my own boss to where I would be on the move all the time and not sitting. I have read on the internet you can make money on vending machines or some people even buy and maintain their own ATM machines...not saying I want to do those specifically but anyone out there have any stories of self employed success?
