Jerry, you have a job for next year why not play the kids now that wins and losses don't matter?

Simpson's pitched 3 or 4 times. He's Narron's guy when he wants to protect a 1 run lead late in the game.

Booker actually got to pitch yesterday, and did fine. It seems as though the Reds are determined to give Simpson an opportunity to make the 2006 Reds (he's going to the Arizona Fall League after the year, and, you know, ACTUALLY GETTING WORK); I can't say that Booker will have that opportunity for certain.

And agreed on the Denorfia/Cruz issue; the Reds have far more to gain by starting Denorfia. But this is the same team that chose Randy Keisler for the starting rotation over Justin Germano, Elizardo Ramirez, Matt Belisle, AND about two or three other younger, higher-upside pitchers.

Freel lines out to short, in case anyone's actually interested in knowing.

The Reds may be starting Milton, but the Brewers have Gary Glover and his 6.47 ERA and 70 hits allowed in 55.2 innings to counter. Maybe we'll get some more pinball scores today.

Glover had been demoted to AAA since May, and just returned to make two starts after the PCL playoffs. He allowed three runs in six innings to St. Louis his last time out. He hasn't done much else in his big-league career beyond a couple of mediocre years as a swingman in the American League.

But he's off to a fast start, punctuating a 1-2-3 first with a swinging K of Dunn.

Man, I don't think I can fault the Reds for not thinking Brady Clark would ever become an above-average regular player. I don't think they should have ever let such a fundamentally sound player go for nothing, but a player with Clark's background is usually not much of a bet to ascend to the spot that Brady has. Hard work or no.

And where was he going to play? I think it's fine that Brady is doing well in MIL. But unless 3 guys went down he wasn't going to get any playing time.

Marty quotes Jose Gullien as calling the Cubs/Cubs fans 'A bunch of F*&^%$ losers'. He better hire some bodyguards.

Well, that's the other thing, I suppose. The Reds had Kearns, Dunn, Griffey, Juan Encarnacion, Guillen, and a future commitment to Wily Mo Pena (which hasn't turned out so badly).

Reggie Taylor was the guy who should never have stayed. But Bob Boone was in love with Rally Time's tools, I guess.

Bob Ueker just informed me that Valentine quit switch hitting 5 years ago.
