He looks more like the Russian agents Sean Connery and Roger Moore used to kill.

BTW - I understand the role of James Bond was originally offered to Roger Moore, but he couldn't get out of his contract for "The Saint." If he could have, Connery wouldn't have been the "original" Bond.

    Re: The new James Bond??????

I agree with Krono and Johnny; Daniel Craig looks more like Vladmir Putin or a Russian agent than he does James Bond. This is a horrible casting decision. I thought the producers of 007 films wanted a "younger" Bond. Even though Craig is 37, he looks older than Pierce Brosnan, who is 52.
Johnny, while Roger Moore was rumored to be on the short list to be the first movie James Bond (Barry Nelson had played Bond in a TV version of "Casino Royale" in 1954), I don't believe from all I've read that "The Saint" kept him from the role in "Dr. No." Although Cubby Broccoli and Harry Saltzman considered several actors, I think Sean Connery was easily their choice.
I'm struck by what columnist Pat Lewis wrote in 1961 about the criteria used in screen tests for an actor to play Bond: "Competitors must be aged between 28 and 35; measure between 6ft. and 6ft. 1in. in height; weigh about 12st.; have blue eyes, dark hair, rugged features-particularly a determined chin--and an English accent."

I don't like this one bit.

    He definitely looks Russian.

    Very disappointing.

If I go to see "Casino Royale" I may find myself rooting for SMERSH.

Had lots of gadgets, yes, but not driven by the gadgets. The last couple Brosnan Bond films seemed more like commercials for hi-tech toys.

Then again, I think this guy did a good job in one of the better Bond movies.

No argument, that also happened near the end of Moore's films (what was A View To A Kill about again?)

Unfortunately, in the case of every actor who played Bond several times, his final films were overwhelmed by gadgets and stunts. That happened with Connery in "You Only Live Twice" (1967) and "Diamonds Are Forever" (1971); with Moore in "Moonraker" (1979), "Octo*****" (1983) and "From A View To A Kill" (1985)--I did think "For Your Eyes Only" (1981) was an exception to this rule; and with Brosnan in "Die Another Day" (2003). I thought the first half of "Die Another Day" was good, but about the time "Q" wheeled out the invisible car the film jumped the shark.

    Re: The new James Bond??????

My eight year old son made a remark that I thought illustrated the problems Craig may have in being accepted as the new 007. He saw some of the articles online about Craig's selection as James Bond and immediately said to me: "You'd make a better James Bond."
Now that's the voice of an eight year old talking about his dad. Those few here who've met me would laugh at the idea of me as 007, but my eight year old son has never said that I would be a better Bond than Connery or Brosnan or anyone else who has carried a Walther PPK or ordered a martini shaken, not stirred.
James Bond is a fantasy, but part of that fantasy is that Bond is tougher, more suave, quicker witted, and ruggedly good looking that any male could expect to be. On my best day, and on their worst days, I could never measure up to Connery or Brosnan. Daniel Craig..........

Baron, you'd take Daniel Craig's lunch money and make him do your homework.

    Re: The new James Bond??????

I had liked the idea of (the at one time mentioned) Clive Owen to become the new Bond. He's much, much sexier than Mr. Craig. I'm don't know if he's sexier than Baron, RedsBaron. I guess Daniel Craig should get the opportunity to prove himself, however.

I do know there is a current book by the writer the Fleming family hired to carry on Ian's works about the young 13 year old James Bond. They want to attract the Harry Potter crowd and make them Bond fans for life.

If Desmond Lleweyln ("Q") was alive, he could dust off Lloyd Bentsen's debate line directed at Dan Quayle and apply it to Craig: "I knew James Bond, he was a friend of mine--you're no James Bond."

    My thoughts on that photo:

The producers have heard all the bad publicity generated by Craig's selection, so they're desperately trying to toughen up his image by showing him rough-shaven holding a massive .44 magnum. They even elongated the barrel in the photo -- maybe as "compensation" for something smaller...
