    Brown Fans

I know there are some on here.

What are your feelings/assessments of this team so far this year?

That was a solid game today against Miami. Droughns, who know has 868 yds rushing, is a solid runner. Some said he wouldn't be able to repeat it after leaving Denver's scheme; but he has proven them wrong. They are starting to get Braylon Edwards mored involved in the game, and watching him today, he is gonna be something to watch. He and Bryant are talented receivers. Looking forward to getting Winslow back next year.

I was so glad when the Browns hired Savage away from the Ravens. That, IMO, was the first step towards "righting this ship". And just like the Bengals did with Lewis, I think Crennel is our man. Both of these coaches know the game, and also are men of character that are greatly admired by both the players and fans alike.

The next thing was "cleaning house" of some of the attitudes and under-achieving players and then going out in free agency and acquiring talented players who have play-off experience.

Our offensive line, running/passing game, and defensive secondary is much improved. Our defense, especially against the run, is still very mediocre; but it's gonna take some time and acquiring the right personnel, to get aclimated to Crennel's 3-4 defense. But Andra Davis is the real deal.

The question mark is still at the QB position. I was glad to see Frye get some snaps today. We have to see what we got at some point to determine where to draft this next spring.

Their play this year has been spotty, but that is to be expected. They lost some games they should have won, but simply shot themselves in the foot.

Two teams, off the top of my head, should have/could have beaten the Colts - and they both play in the AFC Central.

The Browns at Indy earlier this year should have won that game. It was just an amazing performance while playing at Indy. We lost 13-6, but had two TDs called back for stupid and unnecessary penalties. Same thing with that Detroit game. The Houston loss was nothing short of downright embarassing.

But I am optimistic overall at what I am seeing. I predicted they'd win 5-6 games; but the main thing I wanted to see was improvement and something to give us brown fans hope. I think we are seeing it.

    Re: Brown Fans

I like what I'm seeing so far other than final scores. I was thrilled to see the defense get the shutout today; they lack talent overall but dang if they don't play their collective hearts out every week. It should be really stiff once they upgrade personnel on that side.

The offense has serious potential. I'm loving Rueben Droughns, that dude is one hellion of a tough runner and should grab 1000 yards rushing for the first time since I think '85 or '86.

With the maturing of Braylon Edwards, the maturing and return of Winslow and a case of stickum for Antonio Bryant the recieving core should become something special. Working Charlie into games a little here and there like they did today without totally throwing him to the wolves is a great move I think. I have high hopes along with every other Dawg across the land for that young guy.

Next offseason should help tremendously as we'll have heap-big-pile-o-cash cap room and a fairly high pick (A.J. Hawk anyone?). That should go a long way in getting the right personnel for the defense. I'm as optimistic as I've been in a long time.

So do I. But they have to start getting him some snaps in order to evaluate what they got at QB because Dilfer (and he realizes this) is not the future at that position. Getting a look-see at Frye can also help them in determining where/what to draft.

Yep. They are something like 30 Mil under the cap. Glad that Savage is the GM and not DanO.

Knowing that Crennel is a defensive specialist, and the fact that they have some good core weapons on offense with Droughns, Edwards, Bryant, and maybe Winslow, I see them going for LBers in the draft.

defesne keeps getting screwed by Trent Dilfer. the should be powerful offense keeps getting screwed by Trent Dilfer.

4 sacks by the Dline. whereas the Browns Dlinemen sent to Denver: 2 sacks for Brown, 2 sacks of Warren, 2 sacks for Ekuban.

9 tackles for loss by the Browns line, Warren and Brown have 12 between them, and Ekuban has 4.

Broncos and Browns are 3-4 defenses, and just think, the Browns traded the linemen there because they felt they couldn't handle being in the 3-4.

I thought the Broncos were 4-3.

I look for Frye to get alot of snaps from here on out. Like GAC said, they have to have a fairly good assessment of what they have in him before the next draft because of the QB's coming out. If he is the quality QB that most folks suspect then the offense looks pretty good for the future.

I'm really liking Grantham and Carthon the coordinators better than any I've seen since The Return.

And just think, we've still made the playoffs TWICE since the 'Girls made it. And we had to start from scratch after being burgled by fArt and the league and missing the mid-90's altogether!

I disagree. They traded these three because of mediocre performance, poor attitudes/behavior, and injury proneness (Brown). I agree that these three showed great potential/talent when drafted. Now if you want to lay some of that blame on ex-coach Davis, who showed no control/discipline in that lockerroom, alienated alot of the players, and was more of a hindrance himself then a motivator of the players, and helped to create/promote that atmosphere, then I wouldn't disagree with you one bit.

But I think new GM Savage, along with Crennel, decided it was better to clean house of some of these players/attitudes, the "losing attitude" that seemed to permeate that clubhouse, and allow Crennel to build "his" team/defense. A "purging" so to speak. And after seeing such disheavel within the Brown's lockerroom over the last few years, and witnessing what I am seeing now, I can defintely see the difference.

Most Brown fans are not expecting much from this team this year (as far as won-losses). What we want to see, and we are seeing it, is first a change of attitude within that clubhouse, a sense of competitiveness and effort among the players. An end to the complacency, and seeing this organization starting to move in the other direction on that curve. That first comes from the coaching staff.

I follow both the Browns and the Bengals. I wholeheartedly agree with what Lewis has said and brought to the Bengals. It's not only having the talent, but also instilling/motivating within those players and this organization a winning attitude. The 90's were not kind to both the Bengals and the Browns. Yes, there were areas where both were devoid of talent. But IMO, what hurt these organizations even more was that the losing caused a sort of ingrained attitude of complacency and defeatism. It was an attitude of trying not to lose.

We've watched the Bengals, thanks to Lewis, purge that attitude as they went from a consistent 3-4 win team per season, to a .500 team that yes, still showed some inconsistency, but also started showing a glimmer of what they could accomplish as they moved upward on that path.

That is exactly what we are seeing with the Browns. Both of these coaches know what it takes to win. And most of all, are men of character. Coaches like Billick and Cowher may be winners; but they are also a couple of whiners. Time to end their reign.

i don't disagree with trading Brown, Ekuban, and Warren. i was just noting they were traded to a team with a 3-4 defense because the Browns didn't think they were the right personel for a 3-4 defense.

I'm certainly no Browns fan but as sava pointed out, the Broncos use a 4-3 as their base defense.
