    Oh no.

Terrible loss for the Dungy family, around Christmas no less.

I just heard this on 1360, but I can't find any more details on it yet. This is a bad time of the year for that.

Hopefully, the media gives him his space here. I doubt they will, but I can't begin to comprehend what it would be like to lose a child and this will be incredibly difficult for him.

Terrible news when anyone dies, no matter when the time of year, but some one who is 18 makes it doubly sad.

As a parent, this is my worst fear. I can not imagine the pain.

I dont publically make religious/prayer type statements, but I am praying for Coach Dungy and his family today.

Very, very sad news. He really seems like one of the best coaches in the NFL and I have always respected him and his coaching style.

All ditto for me as well.

Having the young man on the brink of adulthood, with his whole bright future spreading out before him, with all that time and love and energy and hopes and dreams all poured into him and now all gone. I can't fathom the depths of the despair and the pain.

Sympathies and prayers to the Dungy family.

They're now saying that it was apparently a suicide.

    Wow, what a terrible thing.

Suicide, at such a young age.

Dungy does a lot of charity work, ministers to prison inmates. A model citizen, loved and respected by all who know him.

This is a sad, sad day indeed.

I just heard that the autopsy was delayed until tomorrow, because the family wanted to donate his organs.

    Good Lord, what a thing.

Re: Tony Dungy's 18 Year Old Son Found Dead

I cannot imagine anything worse for the Dungy family. The death of a child seems to go against the natural way of things; you expect to bury your parents, not your children.
A few years ago, a family we are friends with lost a young son, around age 7, just a couple of weeks before Christmas. That funeral was incredibly sad, but that death involved an accident, which is easier to understand in a way than a suicide.
A former neighbor committed suicide a few years ago; I still remember getting a phone call from his wife at 5:50 a.m. asking me to come next door, as she had discovered his body--but his suicide resulted from emotional and pyschological problems in dealing with his service in the Marines during the Viet Nam War. Obviously his family still bears the scars of that suicide, but at least it had an evident cause-the war.
What causes an 18 year old young man, who on the surface seemingly has everything, and with his whole future beckoning, to take his own life? How horrible for the Dungy family to be faced with this.
The loss to the Chargers last week now seems so insignificant.
