Song Lyrics That Don't Make Sense

"She's like the wind, through my tree" - She's Like the Wind, Patrick Swayze.

His tree? what on earth is he talking about?

"I heard her talkin' with her friend when she thought nobody else was around. She said she's got to be somebody's baby. 'Cause when the cars and the signs and the streetlights light up the town." Somebody's Baby, Jackson Browne.

Why would the girl who is "somebody's baby," refer to herself as somebody's baby - and in the third person?

And what's that last line thrown in there for? (It doesn't relate to the next line either.)

How about this gem from REM's Leaving New York:

"It's easier to leave than to be left behind
    Leaving was never my proud
    Leaving New York Never easy"

Leaving was never your proud? Okay then.

Feel free to add to the list.

    An ounce of perception,
    A pound of obscure.
    Process information at half speed.
    Pause, rewind, replay,
    Warm memory chip,
Random sample, hold the one you need.

    Blinded by the light
    Wrapped up like a deuce
    Another runner in the night
    Blinded by the light

Huh? What was Manfred Man thinking of?

Huh? What was Manfred Man thinking of?
Bruce Springsteen wrote it. But I see your point.

Also, I was never sure that Mann was actually saying Deuce.

I believe that's "revved up" like a deuce. Talkin' fast cars, I think.

My favorite band could write the book on obscure lyrics.

    How's this?

A seasoned witch could call you from the depths of your disgrace,
And rearrange your liver to the solid mental grace,
And achieve it all with music that came quickly from afar,
Then taste the fruit of man recorded losing all against the hour.
And assessing points to nowhere, leading ev'ry single one.
A dewdrop can exalt us like the music of the sun,
And take away the plain in which we move,
And choose the course you're running.

"Close to the Edge" - Yes

Cincinnati Chili probably knows the rest of this one by heart.

Out on the streets, that's where we'll meet
You make the night, I always cross the line
    Tightened our belts, abuse ourselves
Get in our way, we'll put you on your shelf
    Another day, some other way
We're gonna go, but then we'll see you again
I've had enough, we've had enough
    Cold in vain, she said

Excerpt from "Round and Round" by Ratt. Good song, good groove, but cheesy lyrics

REO always made my head hurt with this:

You take it on the run baby
If that's the way you want it baby
Then I don't want you around
    I don't believe it
    Not for a minute
You're under the gun so you take it on the run

Does he believe it or not? Am I missing something here?

Re: Song Lyrics That Don't Make Sense

    This is a fantastic song...

Web in Front - Archers of Loaf

Stuck a pin in your backbone.
    Spoke it down from there.
All I ever wanted was to be your spine.
Lost your friction and you slid for a mile.
    Overdone, overdrive, overlive, override.

You’re not the one who let me down,
    But thanks for offering.
It’s not a voice and I’m not around.
    But thanks for picking it...

    Up, on the radio.
Sampled your rust from a faucet, I know.
I’ve got a magnet in my head,
    A magnet in my head.
Extra thick, extra long, the way it was wasted.

And there’s a chance that things’ll get weird.
    Yeah, that’s a possibility.
    Although I didn’t do anything,
    No, I didn’t do anything.

    All I ever wanted,
    All I ever wanted,
All I ever wanted was to be your spine.

    (repeat)

And a mouth kept shut and a tongue twist tie.
You’re the web in front, you’re the favorite lie. (? )
    You’re a buck my lip, you’re a lash my lie. (? )
You’re the web in front of a favorite lie.

Stuck a pin in your backbone.
    Spoke it down from there.
All I ever wanted was to be your spine.
I’ve got a magnet in my head, a magnet in my head.
Extra thick, extra long, the way it was wasted... wasted.
School's out. What did you expect?

Re: Song Lyrics That Don't Make Sense

Evelyn, the Modified Dog by Frank Zappa

    Evelyn, a modified dog
Viewed the quivering fringe of a special doily
Draped across the piano, with some surprise

    In the darkened room
    Where the chairs dismayed
    And the horrible curtains
    Muffled the rain
She could hardly believe her eyes

    A curious breeze
    A garlic breath
    Which sounded like a snore
Somewhere near the Steinway (or even from within)
Had caused the doily fringe to waft & tremble in the gloom

    Evelyn, a dog, having undergone
    Further modification
Pondered the significance of short-person behavior
    In pedal-depressed panchromatic resonance
And other highly ambient domains . . .

    Arf she said
I've been to dinner at Jimmy Buffet's house, and I've eaten it at a homeless shelter. And there's great joy and harrowing terror to be found in both places.

I am he as you are he as you are me
    and we are all together
See how they run like pigs from a gun
    see how they fly
    I'm crying
    Sitting on a cornflake
Waiting for the van to come
    Corporation T-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday
Man you've been a naughty boy
you let your face grow long

    I am the eggman
    they are the eggmen
    I am the walrus
    Goo goo g' joob

    Mr. city policeman sitting
pretty little policemen in a row
See how they fly like Lucy in the sky
    See how they run
    I'm crying
    I'm crying, I'm crying
    Yellow matter custard
Dripping from a dead dog's eye
    Crabalocker fishwife
    Pornographic priestess
Boy, you've been a naughty girl
    you let your knickers down

    I am the eggman
    They are the eggmen
    I am the walrus
    Goo goo g' joob

    Sitting in an English garden
    waiting for the sun
If the sun don't come you get a tan
from standing in the English rain

    I am the eggman
    They are the eggmen
    I am the walrus
    Goo goo g' joob

    Expert, texpert choking smokers
don't you think the joker laughs at you
See how they smile like pigs in a sty
    See how they snide
    I'm crying
    Semolina pilchard
    climbing up the Eiffel tower
    Elementary penguin singing Hare Krishna
Man, you should have seen them kicking
    Edgar Allan Poe

    I am the eggman
    They are the eggmen
    I am the walrus
    Goo goo g' joob
    Goo goo g' joob
    Goo goo g' goo
    goo goo g' joob goo
    juba juba juba
    juba juba juba
    juba juba juba juba
    juba juba

Re: Song Lyrics That Don't Make Sense

How is it that Duran Duran just doesn't own this thread?

Sample 1 (New Moon on Monday)
Shake up the picture the lizard mixture
With your dance on the eventide
You got me coming up with answers
    All of which I deny
    I said it again
    Could I please rephrase it
Maybe I can catch a ride
I couldn't really put it much plainer
But I'll wait till you decide
    Send me your warning siren
As if I could ever hide
    Last time La Luna

    Sample 2 - (Save A Prayer)
Feel the breeze deep on the inside,
Look you down into your well
If you can, you'll see the world in all his fire
    Take a chance
(Like all dreamers can't find another way)
You don't have to dream it all, just live a day

    Sample 3 - (The Reflex)
So why don't you use it?
    Try not to bruise it
    Buy time don't lose it
The reflex is an only child he's waiting in the park
The reflex is in charge of finding treasure in the dark
And watching over lucky clover isn't that bizarre
Every little thing the reflex does
Leaves you answered with a question mark
