Former Orioles GM Jim Beattie, the favored candidate of Red Sox president Larry Lucchino — a close friend of Castellini's — during the Sox's recent GM search.
Twins assistant GM Wayne Krivsky, who was the runner-up to O'Brien when the Reds last made a change in October 2003.
Braves assistant GM Frank Wren, who was the Orioles' GM in 1999.
Two internal candidates, Reds director of major-league operations Brad Kullman and director of international scouting Johnny Almaraz.
My list of replacements: Antonelli, Forst, DePodesta, and Krivsky.

Anyway, to get back on topic, I'm still trying to bring up that Ng interview, but I'm still getting site errors. I remember liking certain aspects (her understanding of park effects) and not necessarily liking certain aspects (she doesn't seem to recognize the high risk factor in drafting HS talent over college talent).
Still, DePodesta, Forst and Krivsky top my list of replacements.

I know I shouldn't, but I actually feel somewhat sorry for O'Brien. He was so overmatched and yet he didn't realize it. He actually thought he was doing well by the team. I wish him well in the future and I know he has a promising career in politics.
Just saw this on Lance's blog and the press conference at 5pm - it's really nice to see some major change in the FO there taking place.

Not to throw rain on the parade, but I'm a bit concerned about how all this will play out if Piniella's hiring in 2007 is a fait accompli. If Lou is Big Bob's guy, this GM may end up emasculated between the owner and the manager.
Castellini needs to make sure he is empowering people to make the decisions they are qualified to make, and to make sure those decisions are supported according to a clear chain of command.

I have soured on Krivsky. I posted a snipit, a while ago that I heard on the radio of a talkshow host out of Lima that claimed to know Krivsky. He sounded like the small market thing was really wearing on him. The thread was titled: Obrien on the Radio in Lima
