    THT - Re: Dunn

    http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/ar...-july-21-2006/

    14. Cincinnati Reds (Dartboard Factor = 81, +3): I know he strikes out a lot, but how can the media continue to ignore Adam Dunn? He has 30 home runs on the year, which puts him on pace to have to around 210 career round-trippers by the end of the season. Dunn is 26, by the way. Even if he gets injured today and doesn’t play the rest of the season, Dunn will rank 15th in career home runs at age 26 among all players since 1946.
He still strikes out too much.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I can tolerate his strike outs. He needs to improve to at least be an AVERAGE left fielder though.

His current career numbers are impressive for a 26 year old.

    Re: THT - Re: Dunn

As an aside, Dunn will almost assuredly be the all-time leader at age 26 in strikeouts.

He currently has 844 K's in 3201 PAs.

Current leaders are Jose Canseco and Andruw Jones at 870, (Canseco 3664 PAs, Jones 4630 PAs).

And probably among the leaders in walks...he should end this year with around 580 career walks. I'd imagine that would land him somewhere around the top 15 or so.

580 would put him in the top 10. Tied for 9th actually.

    Re: THT - Re: Dunn

So who, at age 26, would have had more HR and more BB? A quick look shows Mickey Mantle, Jimmie Foxx, and Mel Ott. Not bad company.

FWIW, Pujols is in his age 26 year and projects to finish the year at 262 HR (3rd) and 513 BB. Now if only we could get him to hit .330.
