Worked so well for the Reds during that whole Communism thing.

Maybe they can hire this guy to be their new mascot.

I didn't like the technicolor mumbo-jumbo when they first came out. I like the blue/forest stuff. I have the BP cap and home jersey and a green sweatshirt that's the deep forest color. The uni's are great - with the "Rays" on the home & the "Tampa Bay" on the road. Its a great color scheme.

I agree to drop the "Devil". I think "Stingrays" would be cool - that's a ocean-type moniker that would keep the name.

I do not like the idea of the Tampa Bay Tarpons, which would be a homage to the long time team in the Florida State League. The Tarpons would & could be easier to "make fun of" by dropping the "r" for a "m". Although that would be a marketing/give-a-way beyond bad-taste.
Some people play baseball. Baseball plays Jay Bruce.

I've thought the new Rays ownership has done some smart things since taking over (though the baseball operation still refuses to engage in open trade), but this is beyond stupid.

Wonder if Duke's going to change its nickname too?

Or perhaps to play to their southern fan base they could try the Beelzebubbas.

The Reapers or Tampa Bay Swordfish.
Hugs, smiling, and interactive Twitter accounts, don't mean winning baseball. Until this community understands that we are cursed to relive the madness.

Re: Devil Rays to change name

IMO, they should condense the name further and call themselves the Bay Rays. After all, that rhymes with "pay raise" and who wouldn't like one of those?
