Actually, both of the songs I mentioned did chart in the US -- There's No Other Way at #82, Girls & Boys at #59 -- as did Crazy Beat at #22 (which kind of shocks me honestly). Their last four albums have charted here as well, with Think Tank, the most recent one, the highest at #56.

I had to look all that up, I'm not quite enough of a freak to know that offhand.

I know, right? I was working in the wondrous world of pop music at that time, and I do remember there being quite a build-up to that album, a four-year gap between albums, Coxon's departure and all of that -- but still, #22 really surprises me. I thought Out of Time was a bigger single but that didn't even chart. The only thing I can think of is that I'm pretty sure it was the first single off that album so maybe it was just very anticipated.

I do think I have this single kicking around at home somewhere, nice artwork. (Sorry this is so off-topic.)

edit: Just checked, it was the second single off the album. so much for that theory.

I really, really like this song. I also like their remake of the Stones' Wild Horses.

I don't know about the US but this is a strange one. I was at school at the time and there was a craze going around at the time. A very senior politician even got up and did it on national tv. There was one song but two "bands" (I use that term loosely as what else can you use to describe two old guys trying to be hip) who sang the hit. I think the amazing thing is that it made number 1 here with each band sharing the spoils. Two or three weeks each.

That used to happen back in the '50s, too. There were two different versions of "Young Love" that were #1 on various charts more or less simultaneously... and in 1956, FIVE versions of "Mack the Knife" hit the Top 40 at some point.

All the Young Dudes? Would that be considered a one hit wonder?
