    Mark Grace > Hal Morris

Looking for some objective analysis here. I am a Cubs fan, most of my friends are Reds fans. They insist that Hal was a better player. I don't agree, and I don't think its just because I am a Cubs fan. Here are some career numbers.

    Grace
    .303 AVG
    .383 OBP
    511 2B
    2445 H
    173 HR
    1106 RBI

    Morris
    .304 AVG
    .361 OBP
    246 2B
    1216 H
    76 HR
    513 RBI

I think Hal Morris was a fine player during his tenure w/ the Reds, but he wasn't as good as Grace and the numbers prove it. Just curious what some other Reds fans thought. Not sure of my buddies truly believe Morris was better, or if they are just messing with me.

How many more at bats did grace have tho? That doesnt matter for stats like average or OBP, but the rest would surely be effected

I'd say most are probably just messing with you. Hal was a fairly productive player over a short span, but Grace was a better player for a longer period of time.

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13, 15
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

I'll check it out, but wouldnt that just be another factor in Grace's favor? Wouldn't it show that he was more productive for a longer period of time?

Hal Morris was far superior to Mark Grace.

Re: Mark Grace > Hal Morris

In terms of career value, the edge goes to Grace.

I count seven seasons in which I could call Morris a productive major league regular. Grace has 12 or 13.

Grace was a regular at at a younger age. Grace stayed in the league longer. Although there could be other explanations, both of those traits point that he was likely the better player.

Adjust for league and park and baseball-reference has Grace's peak is a bit higher, but frankly you would have to get out a microscope to tell the difference.

I don't know that I would want either of them as my firstbaseman for more than a couple of years. Their results are very comparable to Sean Casey's, but with his injury history it's almost impossible to get a bead on what he could be/is other than another first baseman that I wouldn't want for more than a couple of years.

Hmmm...that's a tough choice. But I think I will go with Hal.

Grace did too. Although it was as an Arizona Diamondback and not a Cubbie.

    Vs the league
    Code:
     AVG SLG OBA OPS RC/G
    .037 .029 .047 .076 1.33 Grace
    .036 .019 .024 .043 0.61 Hal
Grace had 8000 ab's and Hal 4000, Morris even got in the bigs a year younger.

Re: Mark Grace > Hal Morris

Grace was a Cub. Hal, therefore, was much better.
