Hershiser to rejoin ESPN as analyst

BRISTOL, Conn.— Orel Hershiser is rejoining ESPN and will be a studio analyst for the network this season.

The former NL Cy Young Award winner was an analyst for ESPN and ABC during the Little League World Series from 2000-01 and was on ESPN's major league Wednesday telecasts during 2001.

He joined the Texas Rangers in November 2001 as an associate to former general manager John Hart, became pitching coach in June 2002, then was shifted in November to executive assistant to team president Jeff Cogen. Hershiser quit the Rangers this month.
"My mission is to be the ray of hope, the guy who stands out there on that beautiful field and owns up to his mistakes and lets people know it's never completely hopeless, no matter how bad it seems at the time. I have a platform and a message, and now I go to bed at night, sober and happy, praying I can be a good messenger." -Josh Hamilton

I like Hershiser as a coach for the Rangers. Usually guys take a break with ESPN for about a year or so, than resurface with another team. Maybe the Reds down the road but most likely the Dodgers.
