Maybe they'll just rip off the zero.

    That's what I'm thinking...

Funny, non baseball story about this. My friend's sister had a #13 Ohio State football jersey. Well, we all know what happened to those and she didn't want to wear it because she was embarrassed. So she took off the "1" and centered the 3 so it looked like a #3 jersey. Their family went to one of the bowl games a couple years ago and had the opportunity to meet some of the players. Appearently Bam Childress (wore #3) picked her out in a crowd of people, came up, and was asking her where she found one of his jerseys at because he wanted to buy some for friends and family.

Does anyone have a picture of what the new Griffey number 3 jersey will look like?

Only the '3' will be a little further to the right.

If Ken Griffey Sr. is named first-base coach, look for him to wear his familiar old #30, and Quinton McCracken to be re-assigned John Moses's old #32.

    WOY,

OFs Clint Hurdle and Dallas Williams also wore #30 for the Reds in the 80's. The only pitcher I could think of that wore #30 was Guy Hoffman.

Didn't Lloyd McClendon also wear #30 at one time?

Yep he did, I saw Dallas and Hurdle on that list too.. IIRC Derringer wore it briefly in the 30's

Unless my memory has left the building.

I coulda swore Joey Jay wore #30.

Jay beat Koufax 1-0 in my first game ever at Crosley Field.. But what the heck I've been wrong before and will be again.

Yep, Jim Merritt too, he was the last pitcher to wear it.

I thought so. I seem to remember that McClendon bounced from number to number--he wore #23 and #34, I think--before finally settling in on #30. In fact, I think he was wearing #30 when Ken Griffey returned to the Reds from Atlanta in 1988, which was why Griffey wore #25 that season.

Whenever I hear Joey Jay I always remember what my Mother would tell me what the Reds announcers in the 60's would say when Joey would pitch against the Cardinals and a certain Cardinal player would come to bat:

Hoey Hay is now pitching to Julian Javier.

Just another reason why baseball is great. To most Reds fans Joey Jay is the name of a successful pitcher from the 60's. To me Joey Jay will always remind me of all of the great times I have spent with my mother down through the years enjoying Reds baseball and talking about Reds baseball. She's now 76 and when I talked to her yesterday, guess what we talked about a good bit of the time. Yep, baseball.
