Channel 19 sports director Dan Hoard's biography on the station's Web site makes it clear what he wants to do with his life:

"My ultimate ambition is to broadcast major-league baseball ... "

Hoard is leaving WXIX to get closer to that dream. Hoard will take over as the play-by-play man for the Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox. The move will allow him to live in Boston, where Hoard's wife, Peg, lives. The couple is expecting their first child.

"It was time to move on," Hoard said.

Hoard, who joined Channel 19 in November 1995, is one of the city's busiest sports broadcasters.

In addition to his duties with WXIX, Hoard is the radio play-by-play man for University of Cincinnati football and basketball games. He also is co-host of the "Real Reds" pregame show on Fox Sports Net.

Hoard said there's a possibility he will continue with his UC radio duties.

"I've talked to (UC assistant athletic director) Brian Teter about it," Hoard said.

Hoard added that WLW-AM (700), which broadcasts UC games, "is open to the idea."

Hoard was a finalist to replace Joe Nuxhall on the Reds' radio broadcasts. He also did Syracuse Chiefs Triple-A games.
