Re: Game Thread: Reds vs. Blue Jays 3/17/06

Halladay has one more inning to go. He gets the first Reds hitter out.

Austin Kearns grounds left of the mound, and Halladay, fifteen seconds after the announcers praised his "perfect fundamentals", throws it wildly to first. It's called a base hit for some inexplicable reason. Therefore Kearns is twice the man today.

Wise. 1-2 pitch ripped deep to center, and off the fence! Austin trucks all the way in to score, and that's an RBI triple for DeWayne!

2-1 Reds. Germano must have wriggled out of last inning's jam.

Menechino up. Grounder to Glaus at third and he throws home, but the ex-Angels dork it up and Wise is safe. Scored an FC, and the Reds lead 3-1. Frankie safe as well.

Sardinha. A rather ambitious hit-and-run results in a foul ball. Grounder to short makes an easy 6-4-3, and another dead-fissy at-bat for Dane.

3-1 Reds after 4.5. These were the first earned runs charged to Halladay this spring (!).

Mike Burns in to pitch for Cincinnati in the bottom of the fifth. Germano: 4 IP, 1 ER.

He whiffs the first guy. Russ Adams up. He hangs around for a while with fouls. A really long while. He grounds to first, two down.

Alex Rios. Grounds through Burns, but Freel picks it up at 2B and records the 4-3.

    3-1 Reds after 5.

Closer prospect Brandon League pitching for Toronto.

Freel dumps a Texas League single to lead off the sixth.

    McCracken. He gets a hit.

Aurilia. He gets some sort of hit as well.

Two runs have scored. 5-1 Reds. Dunn now batting.

Adam slams one up the LCF alley to the wall. Holbert (PR) scores and it's 6-1. Denorfia runs for Dunn.

    Jacob Cruz.

    Crap, missed some more.

Austin Kearns lines an opposite-field RBI single as his manliness approaches that of Chuck Norris. 7-1 Reds.

Wise grounds into a forceout. Two down.

Kata pinch-hitting. He gets on base somehow. Sorry, I was marveling at Northwestern State. Two more runs have scored, so maybe Matt slammed a homer. 9-1 Reds.

Sardinha was on third. He got a hit?

Snyder PHing for Freel. He singles off the shortstop's glove, but Dane doesn't score.

    Abad PHing for McCracken.

Snyder goes to second on a wild pitch while Abad bats.

Aurilia had a two-run double- those were two of the runs I missed.

Abad walks, and I think they're finally pulling League. Eleven men have batted this inning.

Justin Speier in to pitch. He gets out of the inning.

Any idea why Denorfia was pinch running for Adam Dunn?

And thanks for the detailed updates; that's great!

Ah, too much crap going on.

Reds batting again. Buchanan up. Cruz had reached. B. Brian flies out to the CF warning track.

Wise runs the count full and watches a third strike to end the inning. Pitch was a foot outside and the ump wants outta here.

    Middle of 7, Reds 9 Jays 1.

Belisle hits Reed Johnson with a pitch, but otherwise gets everyone out. Two pretty good innings for Matt.

    9-1 after 7.

Kata leads off against Dustin McGowan. Matt falls behind 0-2, works it even, then K's swinging.

Tuffy Rhodes pinch-hits for Sardinha. He also K's swinging.

Snyder reaches on an error by the SS. Man, has the Jays defense been bad today.

Grounder to short by the next guy ends the inning. To the bottom of 8, 9-1 Reds.

Coffey in to pitch for Cincinnati. First man smashes a triple to center. Next guy pops out to shallow center, no run scores. One out. Next guy gets the sac fly. 9-2.

    Next guy. Doubles.

Next guy. Ks to end the inning.

Not a fantastic inning for Todd. Both extra-base hits were smacked soundly.

Top of 9 for Cincinnati. Lee Gronkiewicz, Under-Respected Ex-Indian Minor-League Closer Extraordinaire, now pitching for the Jays. Hey, he probably knows Jake Robbins.

    Holbert grounds to third.

Next guy strikes out on a Rick Mahler-vintage slow curve.

Jacob Cruz strikes out as well on the same pitch.

9-2 Reds; to the last of the ninth.

Re: Game Thread: Reds vs. Blue Jays 3/17/06

Robbins in to pitch the ninth, incidentally.

    Jason Phillips. Quickly struck out.

    Next guy grounds to Holbert.

    Reed Johnson. Strikes out swinging.

Reds roll to the easy 9-2 win.

I wonder if Jake has added some pitches or something. He's normally a pitch-to-contact groundball guy, and he's been making people miss so far. Both guys he K'd today were big-league hitters.
