So...what do they do with the cash?

I see another trade in the making here after todays events, seems that alot of folks here have overlooked the 1.5 million that was included in the deal. What does everyone think they will use it for? I see them using it towards signing a closer, but that's just me.

Ahh, good call Krono. That would be one smart way to go.

Actually, it's the exact difference between Pena's and Arroyo's '06 salary, so it may not be extra.

Yeah, that cash is part of why the deal was completed. No free money.

y not try goping for the best player in the draft for once insted of always looking for the cheapest one that might make it sting for me less

    I vote for some LaRosa's - we'll give a good tip.

I'd take the 1.5 and bye-bye to Tony Womack.

I think the cash will just go toward Arroyo's salary for this year. I believe Wily Mo was getting about 1.5 million this year. Arroyo is due 3.5 million for the year so I think they will just take the 1.5 they got from the trade to pay for Arroyo for the year.

Yup -- no "extra" cash here. Just makes us not have to adjust the budget. A real value deal would've been an extra 1.5 mil to buyout Womack.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

June 22 Free Eggplant Chips giveaway at the ballpark. The first 29000 fans all get free organic Eggplant Chips as the stadium tries out new snacks which will be featured in the '07 season. The Chips are baked to keep in extra vitamins and lower fat. Umm

That and maybe it is being used to pay for all the players being brought in to replace the guys being released. Maybe to be used to pay for incoming first baseman? Most likely to simply keep budget in line to account for difference between Wily MO and Bronson.
