    Reds interested in Craig Wilson

It won't allow me to copy and paste the article but here's the link.

I would like to have Wilson, however, I still prefer they go after a Shealy, Choi, or Carlos Pena.

Re: Reds interested in Craig Wilson

Here is the section talking about Wilson.

    Reds eye Wilson

Any chance the Pirates might trade first baseman/outfielder Craig Wilson to Boston for right-hander Matt Clement ended Monday when the Red Sox traded right-hander Bronson Arroyo to the Cincinnati Reds in a trade for left fielder Wily Mo Pena.

Cincinnati is now reportedly eyeing Wilson to play first base with Adam Dunn, uncomfortable in his spring trial at that position, moving back to left. The Reds asked Dunn to learn first base after trading Sean Casey to the Pirates over the winter.

The Atlanta Braves are also a strong possibility to trade for Wilson as they are looking for someone to platoon with left-handed hitting first baseman Adam LaRoche. Atlanta is not likely to part with right-handed pitching prospect Kyle Davies but could trade right-hander John Thomson.

The deal would be close to a financial wash as Thomson has a $3.75-million salary this year while Wilson will make $3.3 million. Thomson also has a club option in his contract for $4.75 million in 2007 that can be bought out for $500,000.

I'd be on board with that, I suppose, even though I think Wilson's defense vs. Dunn's defense is a push. Anything to get Hatteberg out of the everyday lineup.

I'd still rather see Griffey at 1B and Denorfia in CF, though.

Why not Jr. in LF and Denorfia in CF keeping Dunn at 1B? Dunn is a terrible OF with very poor range. Junior would be a phenomenal LF.
It's absolutely pathetic that people can't have an opinion from actually watching games and supplementing that with stats. If you voice an opinion that doesn't fit into a black/white box you will get completely misrepresented and basically called a tobacco chewing traditionalist...

    2 problems with that:

    1. Dunn doesn't want to play firstbase;
    2. Griffey doesn't want to play LF, as he feels it will be harder on his legs.

True, and I agree whole heartedly. I was just curious why that scenario was not brought up.

That's what I've been suggesting. Won't happen, makes too much sense.

I wouldn't mind Wilson. Hey, he's better than Hatteberg at first.

If you're going to spend $3.0M on a first baseman, I'd much rather it be Carlos Pena than Craig Wilson.

If you're going to trade valuable commodities for a first baseman, I'd much rather they trade for Hee Seop Choi or Shealy than Craig Wilson.

In short, I'm not that interested in Craig Wilson for the salary or the players it would cost to acquire him.

    I concur.

You could get by with Hatteberg and Carlos Pena. That would be better then probably having to trade a pretty decent player/prospect for Wilson.

So what do you offer the Pirates? Jason LaRue? Not sure if I'm interested in that.

Yeah, after seeing the price the Braves are willing to pay (Thomson), I'm not so sure I wouldn't throw in my cards this hand.
