Would you take Hee-seop choi over Hatteberg

Hee-Seop Choi's time as a Dodger could be down to its final days, a situation hastened by James Loney's fast-arriving future. The Dodgers likely will make a decision before they break camp in Florida. If they release Choi by March 29, they would owe him approximately $178,000 in salary. -- Orange County Register
I realize this would be his fourth team in 3 years but he is younger and I would think he would be better definsively but again that is an assumption and you know what they say when you assume something

    Yes. yes. yes.

I would take Choi over Hatteberg everyday of the week.

without a doubt. he is a better defender and his LH power bat is a nice match for GABP(whereas Hatteberg GB doubles bat is a poor match for GABP). He posted a .388 OBP in a little over a hlaf season in Florida before Tracy buried him in LA. There is at least potential upside both offensively and defensively where there is none with hatteberg.

I couldn't agree more. Choi over Hatteberg is the no brainer of all no brainers.

No! Choi was 'showcased' by the Dodgers during the WBC for this reason. He was half-way to useless for them and now they have an infield log-jam with the acquisition of Garciaparra & Furcal. I am on the "no Choi" bandwagon here. I have to admit I haven't see Hatteberg play since he was converted by the A's. I saw him with some mediocrity as a catcher in Boston. But is he REALLY that bad here?

... even worse BUT he is scrappy and knows how to play the game.

Choi was showcased because they don't have a roster spot for him and he isn't in their future plans.

Yes, when he is hot he can carry a team for a few weeks. Not bad defensively either.
It's absolutely pathetic that people can't have an opinion from actually watching games and supplementing that with stats. If you voice an opinion that doesn't fit into a black/white box you will get completely misrepresented and basically called a tobacco chewing traditionalist...

What about that Shealy kid? I prefer to take a chance on a kid than Choi.

    Three Year Splits

    Hatteberg
    348/384-.733

    Choi
    353/444-.797

Choi's, what, ten years younger? Something like that. I'd take him in a nano second over Hatteberg as a starter. I've got no problem with Hatteberg as a pinch hitter.

Does he Play The Game The Right Way? Does he Know How To Win? I don't think so. He also Strikes Out Too Much so the Reds wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.
