    Dbacks pick up Juan Cruz

Cruz seems like a guy that alot of people around here like, and ARI picks him up for Halsey. Good trade for the Dbacks, IMO

And this is what I mean when I say Beane builds his contenders from February to July. When everyone else is asleep or flat-footed.

I see it as a win-win for both. Both teams traded to address a weakness.

Cruz is odd, he can be lights out and he can get sent down to AAA.

in other words, a typical middle relief candidate(albeit one with better stuff).

I guess the A's needed lefty middle relief? Halsey's not good enough to crack that rotation.

I see him as insurance for the rotation in case of injuries.

They already had plenty of that, but since I asked the question, I looked it up -- it appears they were righty-heavy and swapping Cruz for Halsey balances it out a little better.

Of course, this is Beane we're talking about; obtaining Halsey may have been a precondition for something else he's working on.
