    Ben Broussard vs. Scott Hatteberg

It is starting to look like the Indians may try to trade Broussard, or perhaps even release him. They are said to be considering playing Hafner at first, or perhaps even moving Aaron Boone to first and bring up Andy Marte to play third.

Would Broussard be an upgrade over Hatteberg? He's definately younger.

Can't imagine them releasing him. No way. Where are you hearing this?

The stuff I read was that Broussard is likely to platoon with Perez. I don't see a DH replacement for Hafner.

They were actually just discussing this on XM a few segments ago. Not the release, but that Hafner was going to be playing more 1B this season.

In case you missed it, the Tigers Sunday released first baseman Carlos Pena, who hit .235 with 18 home runs and 44 RBIs last year and is making $2.8 million this year. Those stats and salary are almost identical to Broussard, who hit .255 with 19 home runs and 68 RBIs, and will make $2.5 million this year. That's a lot of money for a below average run producer playing a run-producing position. It would not be a surprise for the Indians to explore trade options for Broussard, or even go so far as to release him.

FWIW, I'd take Broussard over Hatteberg. And I'd take Pena over Broussard. But that's just me.

Broussard has a little more power, a little better defense and little less plate discipline. I honestly have no clue what the Reds have in mind.

PECOTA prefers Broussard 9.4 VORP to -4 for Hatteberg

Does Hatterberg project to be the worst everyday first baseman in MLB?

I don't think there is any doubt about that.

As long as he offsets that with great defense...

Supposedly he offsets his bad offense with poor defense.

Even if he is the worst 1st baseman in baseball...he will have Tony Womack standing nearby at 2nd base to help him out!

Broussard is the weakest link. It only makes sense to try to trade him.
