    Game Thread 3/31 at Indians

    Lineup per Marc:
    Frank Menechino 2B
    Edwin Encarnacion 3B
    Ken Griffey Jr. DH
    Adam Dunn LF
    Javier Valentin C
    Brian Buchanan RF
    Andy Abad 1B
    Jeff Bannon SS
    Norris Hopper CF
    (Brandon Claussen P)
Lefty Cliff Lee is pitching for the Tribe.

Only question I have here: Why the crap is Menechino getting so much time at 2B. Even if some of the vets don't want to travel, you have THREE guys competing for the spot, have at least one of them play there. This just tells me that the spots pretty much already given to Womack, something I've known for a while but not wanted to admit.

This will be the second game with no Tony so either a deal is pending or there are ready to cut their losses. As for Freel and Aurillia, both played yesterday at Boston so they are probably getting the day off to get ready to head north.

I don't think 3 guys are competing for the 2b spot.

The Reds obviously don't like Freel as a 2b. I don't know why, but it HAS to be more than the fact that he is valuable as a super-utility guy, because the batting order is so much better with Freel in the line up. Yet Freel has gotten very little playing time at second. And if you assume Womack will not be with the Reds opening day (and I have assumed that since Krivsky took over), that leaves Aurilia as the starting second baseman and Menechino still competing for a roster spot.

I agree with you on Freel at 2B. I don't think he'll be used there unless the starter is given a day off, and God I hope you're right about Womack not making the team and Aurilia being the everyday second baseman. Those are words I never thought I'd type, BTW.

Who is Norris Hopper and how does a guy with a name that cool fly under the radar?
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

AA dynamo or at least a guy that hit really well in Chattanooga, don't know much else about him.

Originally drafted by the Braves. He played for Cherryville High School in Cleveland County NC. That high school and mine are in the same division for sports. The day before Todd and Norris both got drafted they played against each other in a Legion game. The scout that signed Todd was sitting with us when Norris came to bat. He said he was there to look at Norris also. After the AB, a 3 pitch strikeout, he was only there for Todd.
There are 10 types of people in this world. Those that understand binary and those that don't.

They wheeled a 3x4 steel safe into the clubhouse Sunday morning to store the players' valuables. It took four guys to lift it off a dolly and onto a table.

Said pitcher Kent Mercker: "What's that, Junior Griffey's wallet?"

    Thanks Coffeybro.

Hopper hit .310/.354/.368 with 25 steals in 451 AB last year in Chattanooga.

Someone had the "Free Norris Hopper" sig line about the time I had my "Free Jeremiah Piepkorn" tag line.

Those 2002-2003 wacky Dayton Dragons. You can't forget about Norris Hopper and Wandel Campana.

    Nuts city, I'd tell ya.

OK, late last week JN said we would pretty much see the "regulars" throughout the rest of ST. Now let me ask you this, am I blind? And, what could the purpose of this possibly be?
