According to the local 6 o'clock news, Downey leaving is not yet a done deal. They really are trying to talk him into staying.
Also, the reran the clip from when he said he wanted to stay... and he didn't say "yes, I'm going to stay a Bearcat". He said, "as of right now, I intend to remain a Bearcat". Therefore, IMHO, he did not lie... perhaps something has happened that's making him lean toward leaving, perhaps it's something about the new coach, or half a dozen other things.
Bottom line, he isn't out the door.... yet.

Most incoming college freshmen who would consider UC have seen the drama that's been playing out since Nancy Z arrived there. What college player with an ounce of talent wants to subject themselves to this three ring circus, and why would Downey want to remain as the big man on a sinking ship if the ship is still going to sink? Being a king isn't glorious when you're the king of the land of poop. I can't fault any talented player for not wanting to play at UC in the forseeable future.
My dad got to enjoy 3 Reds World Championships by the time he was my age. So far, I've only gotten to enjoy one. Step it up Redlegs!
