Suspect arrested in shooting at baby shower

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) -- A man has been arrested in Springfield in connection with what police called a "baby shower gone bad." Juan Velazquez was arrested Tuesday at his apartment.

He pleaded innocent Wednesday to charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and armed assault with intent to murder. Velazquez was ordered held on 100-thousand dollars bail.

Police say a dispute between guests at a baby shower on Saturday erupted into a fight during which one man was shot in the stomach. He remains in stable condition at Baystate Medical Center.

Several people, including the guest of honor -- a 22-year-old woman who is seven months pregnant -- were struck with a large stick. Two others who were arrested pleaded innocent Monday in district court.

Actually, your probably right, putting a super bowl ring or two or five on the end of a stick and striking someone will put them in the hospital. Those things are heavy.
