Tab has never gone away. If you tasted it (compared to other diet sodas), however, you might wish it went away.
I became diabetic back in 1973. Back in those days there was not a Diet Pepsi, Diet Coke or hardly any diet sodas. It was pretty much Tab and Fresca... then Diet Faygo. Tab & Fresca each have a unique taste that most people would not find enjoyable. I learned to "like" each one b/c I did not have much choice if I wanted a soda. But it was hellish. The day Diet Pepsi came out was a day of rejoice for many! IIRC Diet Coke did not come out for many years after Diet Pepsi.
Tab, Fresca, Pennzoil, Quaker State... all in the same taste genre IMO!
Don't forget Diet Rite, the 1st Diet Soda.It was pretty much Tab and Fresca..
I have never tasted TAB, not will I ever.
Diet Rite isn't so bad, it has a slight salty taste to it IMO.
Diet Cherry Pepsi is my favorite of the diet sodas.

Tab was my first diet drink, then they came out with Diet Coke shortly thereafter. Tab is unique, and like Diet Rite, has a flat taste. I think the same thing about Diet Pepsi.
Really good diet drinks are Diet 7up, which I'm drinking right now, Diet Sprite, Diet Coke, and Diet Dr. Pepper. Also, most brands of Diet Orange Pop are pretty good. I really don't like sugar pop, usually get sugar from a glass of Country Time Lemonade at night. I always like to order my Biggie Size combo with a greasy burger, greasy fries, and of course, a diet pop.
