    Best Villian ever

I was reading The Sports Guy's mailbag today and he mentioned John Lithgow and his villainous portrayal in Cliffhanger (beyond horrible if you ask me - as was his villian in Ricochet. Not a Lithgow fan)

Anyway, who was, in your opinion, the best villain ever in a movie or TV show? The guy who actually hated, who didn't overact to make you hate him but was diabolical enough to do so anyway.

In no order, here are a couple that stand out to me:

    (a) Alan Rickman in Die Hard.
    (b) Alfred Molina in Spiderman 2.
    (c) Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs
    (d) Mr. Potter in Its a Wonderful Life

Lithgow has played a tremendous villian's role in several movies.

There are some that just take villian to a whole new level.
How about a little known movie and a great villain there.
The smash hit from 1984 Runaway, featuring Gene Simmions as Dr. Charles Luther. Took the cold calculating villian to a new level.

How about Jack Nicholsons' villian in The Shining.

Or Dennis Hopper's Frank Booth in Blue Velvet.

Or Ralph Fiennes in Schindlers list.

Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter has to be number one for me.

Dennis Hopper as Frank Booth in Blue Velvet

Lena Olin as Mona Demarkov in Romeo is Bleeding was a great female villianess

Not considering slasher films, or you'd have Freddy, Jason and that whole genre of mindless drivel.

Either Robert Mitchum in the original or Robert DeNiro in the remake as Max Cady in Cape Fear

Raymond Burr as Lars Thorwald in Rear Window
More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can't wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that's not only better, but also more directly involves me.

Never really watched the show, but I guess JR Ewing would have to be on that list.

Not to leave out the women.

Louise Fletcher in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. You wanted to slap her!
    Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct.
    Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction.

Swearigin is not really a Villian, he kind of straddles it... that other guy last seen with a belly full of Andys knife is the true villian
