Will Brandon Phillips take a walk this year?

BP and Harang are the only ones not to draw a walk today......I'm beginning to think it might not ever happen. I can live with if he keeps hitting .350, but that's obviously not going to happen. He needs to learn how to take a walk to maximize his potential IMO.

OK, never mind. Swing away kid, swing away. He's got to be player of the week this week I'd think.

He's now at 17 RBI for the week.

with guys always on and with Larue/Ross/pitcher behind him I would rather have a decision with his bat as long he isn't swinging at pitches he can't hit. And he really hasn't been chasing high fastball or breaking balls in the dirt.

Another thing I like about him (and a reason he may not walk much) is the fact that dude absolutely CROWDS the plate when he hits. This gives him a lot more plate coverage to be able to effectively hit some pitches that may be a bit out of the zone. Conversely he has the bat speed to get around on some inside heat.

Why on earth would he try to take a walk right now? He's as hot right now as anyone on the planet.

You take what they give you.

Plate discipline is somewhat of a "knock" on Phillips. But he's young.
