when griffey returns, starting rotation and ross

since freel is doing so well, i think narron will be more willing to give him more of an everyday job. this is the lineup i would like to see upon the return of jr

    1. freel cf(most likely lf since jr wont move)
    2. lopez ss
    3. jr lf/cf
    4. kearns rf
    5. dunn 1b
    6. ede 3b
    7. larue c
    8. phillips 2b

aurilla can back up at any infield position and q can back up any outfield position with hatteburg becoming their ph specialist

and although i am a kearns fan, i would continue to shop him around for a pitcher because this team only has 3 legitimate starting pitchers now that milton is going on the dl (harang, arroyo and claussen-who just had one bad start the other night and will be better next time) who knows who long milton will be out and wilson is a month away. im not ready to abandon dave williams yet, but he is tossing salad out there right now and looks to have no confidence at all. i would only give him 2 maybe 3 more starts right now before i demote him to the bullpen.

and trading womack for cody ross isnt the answer because it still creates a roster problem when jr comes back.

and finally, why are the reds carrying 3 catchers with a 12 man pitching staff? i say trade one away for the best pitching prospect you can aquire (that being either larue/valentin since dave ross isnt worth anything more than sid fernandez) there has to be someone in need of a catcher

Dunn does not want to play first, and Aurilia is more than adequate there. Junior coming back is going to mess up everything.

Whether Dunn wants to or not it may be time for Narron to step up and do what's "best for the team" and tell Dunn to deal with it, suck it up and play first.

Wow...I'm sure there are a lot of teams in MLB that would love to have Junior come in and "mess up" their lineup. By no stretch of the imagination is Junior coming back a bad thing.
Benzinger backing and calling! And the 1990 world championship series belongs to the Cincinnati Reds!

When Jr. comes back, barring another injury, one of four things happen:

    1. McCracken gets sent out to make room.

    2. A Reds catcher gets traded for a decent pitcher, with a current pitcher being sent out.

    3. Kearns gets traded for a good pitcher, with Ross taking over his outfield spot and a current pitcher being sent out.

    4. Freel gets traded for pitching. I would bet against this one.

You forgot the other possibility, a bombshell. Namely, Griffey gets traded for pitching. Freel takes over CF. Ross becomes the fourth outfielder, with McCracken pinch-hitting, pinch-running, coming into games as a late defensive replacement.

Which brings up a real question: Do we really need Griffey?

    Trade??

Thanks. Actually, I didn't forget this one, but assume that when Griffey comes back he will have absolutely no trade value until he plays for awhile and shows that he is healthy. To avoid a player move, Griffey would have to be traded virtually simultaneously with his recovery off the DL. I just don't think that will happen.

For the long term, I agree that a trade of Griffey does make sense since it permits the Reds to proceed with a younger team. Just don't think it will happen yet.

Junior can't be traded without agreeing to it, and why should he. I just hate trading Kearns so that Junior can play every day. As soon as we do it, he'll go down with an injury. Trade youth so that age can play. Blah.

Kearns is not getting traded. He is producing and he is going to be a Red for a while.

Which makes Kearns all the more attractive to trade. His value is higher right now than it has been in 3 years.... if he's going to be moved, its now or never!
