Reds' rookie catcher Dann Bilardello hits his first major league HR in the 7-0 win over the Mets at Riverfront Stadium. Mets' starter and former Reds’ pitcher Tom Seaver is the victim of Bilardello's shot that lands in the first row of the green seats in left field. Seaver is roughed up for five earned runs, seven hits, five walks, and is pulled from the game after five innings. Reds' starter Bruce Berenyi, pitching more like the Tom Seaver of old, fans nine Mets in the six-hit shutout.
