When was the last time a Reds starter was 4-0?

Bronson Arroyo is 4-0, this begs the question, when was the last time, if ever, a Reds starter began the season 4-0?

When was the last time that the Reds pitching staff recorded two shutouts in a week?

    Edit to answer:

    August 20, 2004 2-0 @ Arizona
    August 26, 2004 1-0 vs. St. Louis

Didn't Danny Graves have a season when he started 5-0 or 6-0?

    Certainly not as a starter.
We'll burn that bridge when we get to it.

This year's start by Arroyo reminds me of Bill Bonham in 1978, who started the season 7-0 in his first nine starts for the Reds after being acquired from the Cubs in the offseason without much fanfare. He finished the 1978 season 11-5.

The very next season, Mike LaCoss started 8-0 for the Reds before losing three straight decisions. He finished 1979 with a 14-8 record.

Graves started the 2000 season with an 8-0 record as a reliever for the Reds. He actually pushed his record to 10-2 before dropping his last three decisions, giving him a 10-5 record for the season, all in relief, of course.

Wow, that appeared to be a pretty nice start after being essentially washed up with Tampa Bay. With his past injury history, I guess it's a good thing the Reds didn't act hastily and sign him to a long term contr...uhm...Never mind.

Tuna-Boat Jack! I remember that start. He thought it gave him the right to make reporters call his agent to "schedule" interviews b/c he was big-time. And as we see a lot, he faded out as quickly as he came into the scene. He ended up 12-9 in 1990 (his only winning season in the bigs) and I am sure his agent's phone wasn't ringing too much after the All-Star break in 1990.
Small market fan... always hoping, but never expecting.

Yep. IIRC, he started the All-Star game for the NL and never was quite the same after the midway point of the season.
